    Covid surging in Bonaire

In case anyone finds this helpful, I e-mailed the public health department in Bonaire. Here is what I asked: Hello, My friend and I are travelling to Bonaire mid-September. We had a few questions we were hoping to get clarification on. Your website indicates that we must have a (NAAT)PCR...

Full Cave Course Review - Protec Tulum

I already had cavern and had done a good portion of intro on a previous trip that was cut short due to massive ear infections. So this course was a blend of the remainder of my intro and my full cave.

Full Cave Course Review - Protec Tulum

All, I wanted to take a few moments to share my recent experience with Protec Tulum. Earlier this month I completed my full cave course with Protec in Tulum. Initially, I was scheduled to take the course as the only student and I would have two instructors (one of which was working to complete...

Tipping Cave Instructor - Somewhat Unique Situation

Hey all, I am going to be doing several days of full cave training in the near future. It seems like the issue of whether or not to tip an instructor is kinda split down the middle. To further complicate my issue, my instructor is actually in the process of completing his full cave instructor...

    Cold in 55 Degree Waters!

Thanks for the feedback. I guess it wasn't clear in my original post where I indicated I was using a "Smartwool" merino wool layer as my based under the arctics. As I had mentioned in previous posts, I am using a well fitted 7mm hood. My head is comfortable throughout the dive, never feels...

    Cold in 55 Degree Waters!

I have both a Fusion and the Arctics. As I had mentioned, I don't feel a major difference between the two. I guess that could be due to my body not self-generating heat like it should be. Once I visit the doctor and get my Thyroid levels checked out I'll give the Fusion another go.

    Cold in 55 Degree Waters!

Yes, I am using dry gloves.

    Cold in 55 Degree Waters!

Yeah, I really didn't notice any difference between my Thermal Fusion and my FE Artics. My Thermal Fusion is a small/medium and a bit tight, so that may be part of the issue with that. On a side note, I have a lightly used S/M Thermal Fusion for sale. LOL.

    Cold in 55 Degree Waters!

Thanks for the feedback. The suit is actually very well fit. It was made to measure and they got it pretty spot on. I am starting to think it could be more related to my thyroid meds needing a bump up in dosage. Already made the doctor's appointment to get it checked out.

    Cold in 55 Degree Waters!

With my 7mm hood my head never feels so much as chilly.

    Cold in 55 Degree Waters!

My base layer is currently a smart wool layer. I do have some underarmor I can wear to try and wick better. I also have a Lavacore at my disposal. I wonder if that would make any difference as a base layer underneath my Arctics?

    Cold in 55 Degree Waters!

Good catch! I am actually on meds for hypothyroidism. Perhaps they aren't quite working well enough. I will check into that!

Thanks! I'll take a look at the X-core vest.

    Cold in 55 Degree Waters!

I will definitely try adding some additional layer to the chest area. I was very skeptical about the Thermulation solution. I've been looking at a couple other options for active heating. Any recommendations?

    Cold in 55 Degree Waters!

I am probably about 2 lbs over my ideal weighting right now. I definitely feel the cold more on my chest and belly area, which makes sense as the air in the suit rises and typically I trap the bubble in the shoulder area.
