The two liveaboard trips I did in the Maldives.. the first dive in both, the guides asked us to practice deploying SMBs... And it made sense as there were numerous times we had buddy pairs separate from the main group as they ran out of air or NDL and had to unhook from the deep reefs in current...
Yes.. I understand that clipping an uninflated SMB and reel to your BCD is common practice. I do it as well. I was under the impression that the SMB was inflated hence my confusion as to why clip an inflated SMB to the BCD.. wasn't not sure if that was common practice as well.
If the SMB was inflated then I wonder why would someone have it clipped to their BCD... In the Maldives unusually observed everyone holding the SMB as they waited for a pickup... I wonder if the dhoni backed up on the diver or if she surfaced behind the boat.. or maybe there was current that...
Hi - having done 2 liveaboard trips in the Maldive, I am a bit surprised that the Liveaboard advised you that this is a beginner friendly trip. Liveaboard diving in the Maldives is, in my opinion, at least intermediate diving given the deeper average depths for repetitive dives and frequent...
Yes.. have it after each liveaboard trip .. but it doesn't last as long.. was on a 7 day trip in Oct and when I came back it took 3-4 days for the rocking swaying sensation to go away.
Next time try the motion sickness pills before u get on land for a day or two and see if that helps you.
I have done a couple of 1 week to 10 day Liveaboard trips and have faced the similar swaying sensation on land post trip. Each lasted anywhere from 3 or 4 days to the longest lasting almost 3 weeks.
What I found helpful for me was to continue taking the motion sickness pills for 2-3 days even...
Great trip report... Thanks for sharing !!
For others who have experienced currents on this trip, how would you compare that to the currents in Maldives while doing the channel dives ?
Thanks
Been to Maldives twice.. both times on the Emperor fleet. First time did the Bestbof Maldives itinerary. Second time did the deep South. Both were good.. the latter had more channel dives.
Will try to answer some of the questions below.
checkout Emperor divers. They operate a couple of liveaboards in maldives and have been very reaponsive when i have reached to them for last minute trips.
Never hesitate or feel bad when u thumb a dive. Better to be safe than sorry.
None of ur instructors or dive buddies would want a situation wherein you have a panic attack or other incident.
Assuming that there are no instrument or gear issues (no hard breathing regulators or extra tight...
I have the Mares back inflate BCD (Pure SLS) and after lots of experimenting i realized that not filing the BCD to the max helps avoid the tilt forward behavior of the BCD on the surface. Also adding a few pounds in the back trim pocket helps. It still isnt as upright as a regular jacket bcd but...
Here is a picture of rhe QD version with the hose connected.
If this is a newish unit then it should come with all the pieces in the 2nd picture along with end caps for both the QD end of the hose and for the computer end.
