Not much information on the diver. Good luck to him. A DOUBLE tragedy at WA beaches has marred the pre-summer hot spell as two men died in suspected drownings while a third man is fighting for life following a diving accident. Two drown at WA beaches

    AOW/Rescue Diver Not Respected

When on a dive with AOW/rescue/EFR, DM, Instructor level group, one would expect it to be a relatively fun and relaxing dive/s. Alas, in my home waters, Aliwal Shoal and east coast of South Africa, currents vary from mild to WILD. We dive off a duck and trail a buoy-line for the skipper to...

Melbourne woman killed on Mozambique diving tour

Wingy, apology accepted but not necessary. I also get mad when I read such articles and in reading your response to my initial post, I realised it was reaction and emotion. I apologise if my OP seemed as you interpreted it. I am merely trying to give people a heads-up when touring Africa. Yes...

Melbourne woman killed on Mozambique diving tour

Hi Wingy, If you knew me personally you would shudder to think that I could suggest that it was her fault, never ever! There is no innuendo. Just common sense suggestions for personal safety or group safety. As I stated before, use the suggestions as a guideline, not cast in stone, depending on...

Melbourne woman killed on Mozambique diving tour

I agree that not all of Africa is like this and the precautions above apply to any person in any country. I was just bringing attention to the fact that although one is on vacation, it is not "care-free". I love this continent and do not want to discourage traveling here. We who live here are...

Melbourne woman killed on Mozambique diving tour

A caution to all Divers and travellers going to Africa for vacations, Mozambique in particular. I will not go into the sordid details of what happened to this young 20 year old girl except to say it was an unnecessary death if a few basic guidelines were followed. I have extensive travel...

Diver dies at Molokai on Maui dive boat

These thoughts I based on the difficulty factor of the dive itself and the distance to the site. It was specifically for this dive site and based on the scenario given of what transpired that day. There should be a minimum requirement pertaining to experience and certification for this dive...

Diver dies at Molokai on Maui dive boat

A few thoughts on prevention 1. Have Data Buoys installed at reef. Current speed, direction and water temp will be made available to LDC's LDC to inform customers of conditions to allow them to opt out if necessary 2. Assess customers based on Data Buoy information Certification, Experience...

GBR near miss for this novice diver

Happy it worked out for you. When you were describing the ant divers I had to laugh...my narcosis was the same at 46m. everyone, everything was ant size except the narcosis and my signal of same.

GBR near miss for this novice diver

:narcosis:Martini's Law:confused: For every metre past 30m is equivalent of drinking one glass of Martini. The effects of narcosis. I have a deepest dive of 46m, narcosis central for me. Yet I have also had narcosis at 32m. An individual can get narcosis at varying depths depending on...

Diver dies at Molokai on Maui dive boat

unhappy , any info on what happened to cause this diver to be blue in the face and events leading up to the incident/accident? You have done 20 dives on this particular reef. Were you working pro or customer on those dives?

She thinks she almost died..but she didn't!

Seems like a great relationship with your daughter. I would recommend that diving at 60', working in current, young novice and limited viz, that you increase the low-on-air to around 735psi/50bar. You mentioned that you could see concern on her face, this causes her to use more air. 35' to 45'...

    Air Consumption

As discussed above, trim is important. Trim is ever changing on one dive. Most of the elements we cannot control, current, surge, wash and up/down welling. What we can control is what we do in any of the aforementioned. Here is where I watch what the marine life is doing, and do likewise. After...

Diver death in Mabini Batangas Philippines

Bryan, it takes a lot to report as you have without emotion, about someone you were close to, kudos. Do not rule out narcosis, my experience below: I have had one case where I was safety diver on a wreck dive. I always dive at the rear of the group and sweep as it were. A customer freaked out...

If you wear glasses to read I would recommend a computer with a screen big enough and font size big enough to read underwater, something like Mares Nemo Wide Dive Computer.

Hi Neo, I am sure it took every diver several years to work out what is best for them equipment wise as will be the case with you. To try and get is almost right is almost impossible when a novice. My advice to all novice divers is this: Resist the urge you are having to buy NOW!! Patience is...

    Could have been much worse.

Lack of communication with the Instructors conducting the classes about conditions below is the root cause if this near miss. Local or up-to-date knowledge would have had the dive aborted at the surface. Thanks for the honesty of all those involved, it will save lives for sure.
