No one will ever tell you their favorite spot. Go ask a fisherman or a hunter where there favorite spot is and watch the laughter.
Part of the process is finding YOUR favorite spot. Or your favorite spot this trip.
Very true and there can be significant advantages to this both for experienced and inexperienced. Most people that dive with an op like 3P want nothing to do DMs under water. They are experienced and want to do their own thing. If the whole rest of the boat does that you suddenly have the DM...
DD is not bad and they have some good local DMs in addition to foreign DMs that speak many European languages to cater to those guests. A lot of their local DMs are hard core cave divers. Dont confuse the DMs with crowded boats during spring break. There is way more personal space on a DD...
Is the stony coral disease still active there? In my experience at other islands, it hits fast and hard wiping out those corals in months. We were there last May and ~ half the sites were already orange or yellow and had prevalent disease. I am returning in May this year and will be...
I personally loved and did not love Maui diving.
The Moloki Crater was mind blowing to me coming from the Caribbean. The water out at the Crater was crystal clear with visibility likely approaching 100ft. The diversity and colors were stunning. There are also pelagics if you are lucky...
This is why I dislike the info often presented on this forum which over promote staying in town. Some of the AIs are gorgeous, quiet and very close to the reefs. The restaurants are a cab ride away. Get dropped right off at the restaurant and there is no hawking.
Lots of unfortunate but true comments about the state of reefs at the islands that did not protect their reefs. Any island that let the locals overfish their reefs destroyed them. Many places you go there is nothing bigger than a dinner plate. One of the best examples is Belize where the...
Its probably best not to compared the Caribbean to the Pacific for these purposes. I have found the Pacific to be better and it really isn't close. However, for me on the East Coast, the Pacific vacations are more involved.
I do enjoy Cozumel a lot. The topography of the reefs is pretty...
I do think a compass is a requirement. Most sites have a marker buoy of some kinds and I mark a course from my truck to the buoy. When coming back you find the marker underwater and follow the course. You will pop up right at the exit which is a pro move. This avoids surface swims which I...
I've never stayed at Villas or dived with Aldora but you only hear good things about both on this forum.
I just want to add I love this idea. This simplifies the overall process so your new divers only need to focus on diving and not getting too and from the shop. The idea of a private boat...
^^^This above is what we do too. And we strive to speak as much Spanish as possible #1 because its polite as a visitor to a country and #2 its not that hard to say "Hola Senior. La Choza por favor." for example.
This is great advice. When we travel with non-divers we stay at Iberostar. That resort is amazing. The hidden advantage is you are so close to the reef that you will be away from your friends the least amount of time. You will literally save an hour or more each day not having to motor...
Dont confuse their country, their rules with bad science. I've never commented on the rules only the psuedo-science they are using. I was being polite calling it psuedo-science. Does bad science sound better?
"STINAPA says the spread was slowed." Based on what data? Uncontrolled rinse...
