    Diving Resistant to Change?

Regulators are safety critical. Old and tested designs are trusted, their failure modes and limitations are well understood. For example look at aircraft. Most designs of piston engined aircraft use a Magneto to produce their spark. It is very old but very reliable technology. Also some...

    Arrogance and humility among divers

Ask them what their BUD/S class number was.

    Arrogance and humility among divers

That happens wherever amateur photographers gather. There's always one guy (and it's always a guy) with a telephoto lens half a yard long whatever he is photographing. Usually a tripod big enough for a Vickers gun and a flashgun like an arc light. Because of this he assumes he is the best...

What was the allure of braided light cords, again?

I suppose braiding will act as a protection for the hose. On the downside it could hide any damage to the hose. I have stainless steel braided hoses on my Ducati brakes and clutch. The braiding constrains the hose and gives a sharper, firmer reel to the levers as your effort isn't diverted...

    Arrogance and humility among divers

If you want to see unbridled arrogance join an Archery club in the UK, preferably one that has some traditional English 'Longbow' proponents.

Drysuit seals - in or out?

Wear them 'out' and flat just like latex. Silicone seals can be more delicate than latex, they stretch more but it's easier to tear or hole. They tend to 'catastrophic' failure as there is no indication they are degrading or stressed like latex but they can be changed in a few minutes so as...

    Spare air/pony bottle---should I get one?

All the years I have spent sailing and I never fell overboard but I still wear a life jacket. Do you have any secondary?

    Spare air/pony bottle---should I get one?

A Spare Air is a waste of money in my opinion. It's a half hearted attempt at redundancy and gives a false sense of security. Over $300 dollars? You can buy real redundancy for that.

    Practice using a pony bottle

I would say that 'Practice using it' is exactly what you are doing. Get comfortable and proficient at switching supplies.

    Where would you go?

Abaco Islands and Marsh Harbour or Hope Town. Shallow, warm, no big currents and plenty of reef diving. Several good dive outfits working around Abaco.

The Ethics of Full Disclosure on ScubaBoard

It happens on other boards, sometimes it's subtle and takes a while to spot. Anyway, at this point can I just say it's about this time of day I usually have a Pot Noodle! It's a tasty delicious little snack! Ummmm! Let's try some, shall we? Doesn't that look absolutely yumscious! Ohhhh!

Why not? Sometimes you don't need a new one.

I really want to learn to scuba, but I smoke

I was taught to dive whr I was in the Royal Navy back in the early 80s (recreational, not Navy Diving). Our instructor was a long service PO Clearance Diver, he never had a cigarette out of his mouth, I swear, if he could have worked out a way to do it he would have smoked under water.

    Where to go next, help???

I could happily spend the rest of my life in Marsh Harbour or Hope Town. I love the Abaco Cays. Malta is good. Nice place, friendly and safe. Some good diving. I learned to dive there when I was in the RN back in the 80s. (Recreational, I wasn't a Navy Diver but our instructor was an RN...
