Sipadan Trip: Sharks, Turtles, Schooling Jacks, Turtles

I've booked another flight ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau this coming January 2008. Since we're going to have 2 full day of diving, we're thinking of giving Sipadan a miss, or maybe not. January probably has cooler water temperature, hence the chances to see big stuff could be higher.

Sipadan Trip: Sharks, Turtles, Schooling Jacks, Turtles

Aha Eric, were you the diver who rode the whale shark? I saw you, LOL

    Sipadan vs. Bunaken

Sipadan is arguably much easier to get to, ie: by direct flights from Kuala Lumpur. I think for Sulawesi, you may need to change a few aircrafts :) I'm quite in a hurry to post full links, but you can find some dive reports on T.A.R Marine Park in my website: Islands of Malaysia -...

Sipadan: Of Sharks, Schooling Jacks and Barracuda

Yes, didn't know about Sipadan Inn until we were there. We decided to check-in the very next day after Scuba Junkie. Nice to blow off steam after some dives. We also missed the bumpheads as I saw them passing by just as we descended under super strong current at Barracuda Point. Wolverine...

Sipadan: Of Sharks, Schooling Jacks and Barracuda

For this dive trip, we stayed at these two places: Sipadan Inn A few months old. Converted from old shophouse building. Surprisingly well appointed with modern amenities. We stayed in a Superior Seaview room for RM168 per night. Scuba Junkie Bacpackers Decided to try out their...

Sipadan: Of Sharks, Schooling Jacks and Barracuda

Seems like there were no issues on permit during my visit in September. October should be similar. The so-called peak seasons are probably in middle of year ie May/June/July. Not to mention some divers do dive other islands now, like Mabul and Kapalai. During my time there, there was a full...

Sipadan: Of Sharks, Schooling Jacks and Barracuda

Hi Steve, Since those "floating resorts" in Mabul and Kapalai tend to overcharge meagre wage-earner like yours truly, we stayed in mainland Semporna with Scuba Junkie Backpackers and a new boutique hotel called Sipadan Inn, also on the mainland. It's been my dream to $tay at $ipadan Water...

    Staying in Semporna or Mabul/Kapilai

Ok, all these whiles, I have been staying in Semporna and took the boat out to Sipadan or Mabul. Journey took anywhere between 45 mins to 1 hr. The associated cost by staying on the mainland and *rough* it up a bit for the boat trip is outlined below: - Dragon Inn: RM60-80 per nite - or Seafest...

    Dive at Bahara Rocks, Tioman

Thanks victor! Depth was normally 15-25 metres. I'm just a regular Open Water joe, haha! Yes, I tend to detail out what I saw, normally for fish ID and to some extent, coral ID as well. Rest assured once I caught a glimpse of whale sharks, that will be the ONLY thing I write about! Hi...

    Dive at Bahara Rocks, Tioman

Full dive report: Tokong Bahara Located about 45 minutes to the southwest of Tioman. Not many dives are done here due to its distance. Supposedly can see leopard sharks and mantas. The last whale shark was spotted on April 1st, 2007, which was initially thought as an April Fool joke. No big...

    Automate Photoshop Action

I think I know exactly what you encountered. To solve that, when "simulating" the action in the initial setup, make sure you save the end product in a "folder with a fixed location" Example: When simulating, I save the photos in C:/Program Files/bla../bla../Desktop/TEMP. The "fixed" folder...

    Pulau Kerengga, Redang

A shallow dive with a lot of hard corals. The highlights were Jenkin's Whipray, Mr Hawksbill, and Yellowtail Barracuda forming a "mini" tornado. Dive location: Pulau Kerengga, about 10 minutes from Pasir Panjang, Redang. Equipment: Canon A80 with WP-DC900 with no strobes :)

    Pulau Chebeh, Tioman

I thought this was one of the best dives in Peninsula Malaysia for those huge sea fan corals. Dive location: Pulau Chebeh which is about 10 minutes off the coast of Tioman. Equipment: Canon A70 with WP-DC700. No strobes :)

Whoaaa, Pulau Jarak in the "polluted" Straits of Malacca eh? Quite impressive shots, how about the corals? Were there any? Have you dived Pulau Sembilan in Perak, Mr Ed_Man?
