Should I pull the trigger on a cheap OCi or wait for a Teric?

Hey folks, I found someone who would sell me an Oceanic OCi in "like new" condition for around 250 bucks. I'm currently diving an Atom 1.0, which I like best of all the other PDCs (around ten) I own. Also, I could use the transmitter for OCi or Teric, as far as I know. Now the thing is, I had...

    Crotch straps are awesome!

I totally agree, crotch straps are awesome. And a tongue twister. Used one this year for the first time and it made me wonder why not everyone uses them. Since I began optimizing (tinkering with) my gear, I also stopped giving a crap about what others think about it (and the rest of my...

Any recent new science that makes a dive computer obsolete?

Totally outdated and unsafe! But you can send them to me for disposal.:cheers: Seriously: I know instructors who still swear by them.

    Dive Computer Advice

Generally speaking you are absolutely right. Nevertheless I think he just wanted to know if the Puck meets his requirements. I didn't want to bring my personal preference for Oceanic into this. In the next 10 pages of this thread the OP will get a lot of different opinions, based on which he...

    Dive Computer Advice

Well he didn't ask for longer NDL, did he? If you carefully read his post again, you will see, that he asked for a PCD with basic functions that gets the job done. Would you really say that the Puck isn't able to meet these requirements?

    Dive Computer Advice

I think I had in mind that soon someone would recommend a Perdix AI... "Saving hundreds of dollars" was based on this assumption, I have to admit. Although I own more PDCs than some dive operations, the only Mares is a Guardian. :D

    Dive Computer Advice

Okay, so the Pro costs around $200, in this case it might be worth taking a closer look at a cheap Oceanic. Yet I stick to my point: the cheapest is probably good enough. Even if it's a 20 year old Aladin off eBay.

    Dive Computer Advice

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Oceanic myself (love my Atom), but there are lot of divers who want a PDC just to assure one thing: not getting bent. Not that I like the Puck, but it is cheap and will get the job done. So what?

M8 This is the most useful reply you will ever get in a thread like this. Get the Puck, this will save you several hundred dollars.

    Wife fear of mask clearing

My wife had this issue aswell. She was afraid of the mask drill. But she wanted to overcome it and practiced whenever possible. This year on our vacation, when she had only 15-20 OW dives, I was shocked when she completely took off her mask at a wall around 80ft just to defog it. Just a couple...

    What's in your snorkel?

Last year on the Philippines, when I packed my stuff on the evening before departure, a hand sized spider jumped out of my dive bag. I am not afraid of "normal" spiders, but I left removing this specimen to someone braver than me. My wife. :D Should I be embarrassed? I think not. We live in a...

Rinsing your BCD with antibacterial flush?

I do sanitize my BCD bladders regularly. However, I would still prefer taking a breath from the filthiest germ infested BCD over drowning. And the shocked faces of fellow divers after telling them you practiced breathing from the BCD are priceless. :D

To knot or not to knot

Some very useful information that nobody ever told me before. This is why I love SB in general and many of your postings in particular. EDIT: According to a link posted by another user, the remaining strength is about 60-80%.

    Trim...

Hi Bill, I had this issue, too. First of all: Why did you dive with 10lbs even though you wore no suit? I only used a rash guard (skin suit) during my last vacation. I was a little disappointed as I still needed 4lbs of weight with AL80s. On most dives (deepest was 50m) my BC was completely...

    Show me your Selfie!

Well, I don't really really like selfies, yet I took one 2 weeks ago on Cabilao Island, Philippines. After almost 40 dives in two weeks I got bored enough to take silly pictures. ;) Edit: I'm not as fat as I look like in this picture. :eyebrow:

"My wife won't let me ..."

I came to SB, read 12 pages of a silly gender / relationship topic and suddenly I want to become a pilot (okay, I thought about it before). As if SCUBA wasn't expensive enough. Great. Thank you! :clapping:;)

Calm down everyone, you're just talking about simple air bladders. It's not rocket science:
