Double 117 hp steel won't trim

Try switching the ankle weights for a tail v-weight. Sorted the issue for me.

    Rescue diver or nitrox?

I found that Rescue made me a better diver and a better, more attentive buddy. Nitrox certainly has its uses if repetitive diving and you're not a gas hog though.

    PADI Instructor Numbers

Just to throw a spanner in the works; all my instructors and pro buddies who certified in the UK have numbers starting with a 3...

    Replacing an i300

I have an i300 with 50 dives and no problems. The battery symbol on startup isn't a gauge, it's just telling you that the battery check is fine. It'll give you a low batt warning if it needs replacing (I'm still on the original battery). With regard to the unit staying on post dive; it does...

    Dry Suit Under suits

I dive a neoprene drysuit now so I'm slightly less at the mercy of the cold UK water but most of the people in my club use the standard Arctic year round with laminate suits. They do, however, use base layers with them. One of the ladies in my club has the Arctic Expedition undersuit but was...

Need help identifying Mares 1st stage

It's a v42, I have one. The MR42 was a later release that wasn't sold with the proton. I can also say with certainty that it's not a v32 as I have one of those too.

    Help, Mares Proton Octo

The rover octo is very similar to the proton and they're relatively cheap. I'd also consider the MV which is a little smaller.

    deco planner software

I have both MultiDeco and V-Planner on my iPhone as it's convenient but if I'm planning on my pc then I'll use sub-surface. If sub-surface mobile had the planning features then I wouldn't have bothered with multideco and v-planner.

Apeks bp/w + Reg set package enough lift? (30lbs)

If you buy the surelock weight pouches separately then the fixings are included so I'd assume they are also included in the package. The book screws pictured are for attaching the wing to the backplate.

Doubles/cave style hose routing with single tank

Since I dive in the UK and it's usually dark with poor vis, I usually have my canister light with me and use a 7' primary hose with bungeed backup regardless of cylinder config. If I'm in the pool then I just tuck the hose into the waistband.

Apeks bp/w + Reg set package enough lift? (30lbs)

The WTX-D40 is a single cylinder wing with 40lbs of lift. The WTX4 is a horseshoe shaped 45lb twinset wing so is unsuitable for singles as it's too wide and will wrap around the cylinder. I was a little concerned when I first got my 30lb wing but, after seeing a video a buddy took at 36 metres...

Apeks bp/w + Reg set package enough lift? (30lbs)

I find my 30lb wing to be more than adequate for cold water diving with a 15litre cylinder, a heavy torch and 10kg of lead. I generally use a dry suit but I've also used it with a 7mm semi-dry with hood and gloves. By comparison my wing for manifolded twin 12's and stages is only 45lbs.

    Drysuit squeeze when fin kicking

I had to go for O3's made to fit service as I have big shoulders and a big chest. I'm 5'10" but for a suit to fit me width-wise the manufacturers seem to think I should be 6'4" o_O

    Drysuit Diving

We popped in to Vobster Quay for a couple of dives yesterday to wash the salt off the gear after a weekend diving in Plymouth (UK). One of our group had split the neck seal on his dry suit so used a semi-dry in the quarry. We ended the first dive after 30 minutes as he was freezing and we had...

    Drysuit squeeze when fin kicking

Sounds like the suit may be too snug on your legs and it's actually the suit compressing the back of your knees through the tension of the fabric rather than actual squeeze. Try a thinner undersuit or a thermal base layer and see if that resolves the problem. I personally never found the need...

    PADI Rescue

I completed the open water part of mine at Capernwray Quarry earlier this month and was exhausted by the end of the day, it was a great course but I wish I'd been a little bit fitter for it. There were a lot of groups of students in the water on the day (funny how it always gets busier when the...

    An eye opener

The Northern Diver dry glove system is what I use. Simply fits over the existing wrist seals, although neoprene wrist seals need a ring of aquaseal applying before fitting to create a sealing surface. They're a little bulkier and inelegant than the sitech or kubi solutions but are significantly...

A little help for a newly qualified youngster

From a quick look on the Cressi website it looks like the regs are warm water rated which means that they are only certified for use in water that is above 10 degrees C. If you're looking at uk diving then you really need cold water rated regs as only last month I was recording water temps...

Can you repair neoprene wrist seals (drysuit)

There are alternatives to KY. I use O3's Jollop on mine but I've also used a product called slippy-don which is very similar. You'll struggle with talc and neoprene if the seals are still wet from the previous dive.

Can you repair neoprene wrist seals (drysuit)

The old seal is removed and a new one glued and sewn in. If the repair that's already been done seems solid and is watertight then it should be fine.
