Is Scuba just not meant for me?

Take it easy, don’t rush, but I also think you’re over thinking it. Just try to take it easy and get comfortable. I would strongly recommend some snorkel trips. Get used to find and masks and something in your mouth to breathe and playing in the water. Seriously, can you go somewhere where you...

I might regret asking this, but...

Got them in last week, haven’t had a chance to dive in them yet given the recent situation... they fit well and seem to be perfect for under the wetsuit. Definitely covers more than what some of the European gents wear about on dive charters, and the fabric is thick enough to obscure any obvious...

    Suunto Eon Core Upgrade

The Sunnto app is indeed more if an overall fitness tracker app and you can’t even find any dive settings... however, once a dive is logged in the app, you can see a surprising amount of data and 4 different helpful graphs.

Flexing Tensor Tympani and Clearing Ears

I recently stumbled across this article describing how a minority of people can create a rumbling sound in their ears, while others were unaware of the possibility. This got me wondering if there’s any correlation between those who can flex their tensor tympani’s and those who can easily open...

Ascending and then descending straight away

Agree, to +1 this answer your specific question as it relates to the science of diving, the descending isn’t really an issue (assuming you are within your limits), it’s the ascending that can be dangerous if not taken slowly.

I just ordered these! They are cheap and look great!

    Diving with a hydration pack

Literally just laying on the 15ft bottom of a warm lake in FL. We would just watch to make sure he was still blowing bubbles and check on his SPG every few minutes, and wake him up to change tanks every 2 hours. #teamwork

    Diving with a hydration pack

Many moons ago, I assisted a guy who was trying to break a world record for the longest time underwater during a freshwater scuba dive... The record was around 6 days, so tank changes, warmth, food, water, sleep and bathroom breaks were each their own logistical challenge. Anyways, we used...

    CoronaVirus Dilemma

I just heard that from some folks who work in the US Embassy, and a western doctor in Beijing. SARS officially ended in summer, and apparently warm weather helps. But I am neither a scientist nor medical professional myself. ‍♂️

    CoronaVirus Dilemma

As an expat who lives in Asia (Beijing), what I can share is that a lot of the experts think this will all simmer down once warmer weather comes. As others said, take the proper precautions and you should be fine.

    Snorkel: Required or dangerous?

My AOW instructor was adamant about keeping a snorkel with us when diving, and I’ve since followed suit. I do find it to be occasionally helpful when waiting on the surface if I don’t want to blow through my gas. But it is also mildly annoying underwater, and my snorkel is way too big for a...

PADI and technology (what’s the deal with e-cards?)

I would recommend against relying on this option, twice now, I’ve been to dive shops on remote islands with difficulties connecting to the internet to look up divers who forgot their cards. I took pictures of all of my cert cards and saved them in a new album on my iPhone - free eCards and...

    Belgian newbie says hi

Sounds like you’ve got a decent mentor to learn from, you’ll continue to hone your skills with each new dive. Stay safe and within your limits, but get out there and enjoy diving!

    Belgian newbie says hi

Welcome aboard! I stubbornly ignored those “crazy tec” guys for years, but I’m starting to get the same itch for BP/W and GUE Fundies... the more you know. Haha.

Zeagle ranger BCD ???? I am a big guy...

My extended family (Aunt, Uncle & Cousins) got me into diving, and they all had Zeagle Rangers which had been used for diving in the Keys for over a decade. My Uncle is a big guy and he had no issues with his. I can’t speak to the newer models, but the originals where definitely high quality...

operators Khao Lak or Koh Lanta?

Just came back from doing 2 days with Andaman Divers in Koh Lanta. Their boat was larger than almost everyone else’s, with a full upper sun deck to stretch out, a kitchen, and two toilets. They were safe and maintained a max party size of 4 guests to 1 DM. They were pretty safe and pleasant to...

Looking for new dive computer recommendation

Forgot to mention, I’m pretty sure you can setup multiple tank pods if needed, might be a nice feature for your future plans. I am happy with how seamlessly my one pod connects and transmits. :)

Looking for new dive computer recommendation

I recently picked up the Suunto Eon Core w/ Tank Pod, and I absolutely love it. Very bright and easy to read, lots of configuration options including how “aggressive” on the NDL, excellent battery life, rechargeable via USB, I am about 10 dives in with it and I have zero complaints.
