    New diver in Brooklyn, NY

First off...Welcome from Brooklyn, NY! (Wait, that sounds familiar). I am down by Coney Island next to the beach/boardwalk. I'm always interested in connecting with fellow divers in the area. I normally travel for diving but if it's anything local, I'll do Dutch Springs in Pa.; Jersey Shore or...

    New Diver Medic Training

Exactly...in some states like mine (NY) or NJ, it's a full 2 years Associates degree. I mean ya know...unless you're some Jolly Volly EMT's that swear they know everything. In that case, you're a whacker. Lol

    New Diver Medic Training

I was responding to the comment on their website that certifies them as a DMT after doing essentially 20 hours of training and 2 days of clinicals when the only requirement is being EFR certified. If the course was more along the lines of 150-200 hours with 2 days of clinicals, then it would...

    Hello Everybody~

Welcome to the club! Pull up a chair and chill. Was this more of a discover session or the first part towards getting OW certified? If the latter, I believe most universities give you college credit for it. Wish my old college did something like that though. (Since you did one) Fun fact: I can...

    New Diver Medic Training

Mark, I completely agree with you. I've worked EMS for years and with all the new training and guidelines that come out, there is no way 20 hours is enough time. Plus, I saw that the pre-requisite is only having the EFR done through an approved dive agency. Last I checked, EFR was just CPR...

Dominican Republic safety and best snorkeling areas

I just got back to NY on Thursday from the DR. I had absolutely ZERO issues involving any crime. The area I stayed in was called Bayahibe and it is on the Southeastern coast. You can fly into either LRM or PUJ airports. The dive shop I was diving through was called ScubaFun and I highly...

Bayahibe DR, a destination worth going to for diving?

I'm literally typing this post from my hotel room in Bayahibe. As the others have said, I could not recommend ScubaFun more as I just finished doing a weeks worth of diving with them. The staff is complete aces and really know how to take care of everything so that all you have to do is enjoy...

Greetings from a little floating island (staten island) in NY

Nice. I'm over in Brighton Beach closer to Coney Island. Nice job leaving the only island in America, that not 1 but 2 states refuse to claim lol

To Catch the Dream: My Journey from Open Water to Dive Instructor

While you weren't able to go out on the boat because of the CG, I'm glad you were able to at least get some bottom time with the shore diving. Can't wait for part 3!
