My (lengthy) Review of my Helitrox Deco CCR Course on the Choptima

This was a good read. I am going through a similar course soon, I appreciate knowing what to expect. Thank you for taking the time to write up.

    Been busy diving

Weekend dives in Saipan. Every weekend. Vis changes some, but always a varying degree of "good". Temp varies from 84 to 81 but always 'warm'. Surface can be rough, but surge underneath is always manageable. Lucky to live here and have $5 fills.

Where did you solo dive today?

After a week of storms, got in yesterday afternoon in Lau Lau Bay off Saipan. Water was more murky than norm due to rain wash, but on the way back in, came upon a pair of octopus doing the mating dance, got some good footage of them, a few turtles. Always worth it just to get out in it.

    Two divers critical - Hawaii

This contained a ton of information to a novice diver and non ccr diver like myself. Thank you to the spouse for sharing this information and thank you to you divers for having a civil discussion and bringing up so many good points.

    Heard Submarine While Diving?

The tourist sub that goes through Saipan harbor is loud as hell. Clicks, whines, banging, you know it's there.

    Two divers critical - Hawaii

Family involved in this just came up as a rando for me via FB. Emotional to say the least. Lots of mixed feelings about being able to do what you love but then there is a family without this presence now. Be careful while you're out there, if not for you, for someone else.

Share from the weekend in Saipan

    1. There are several dive ops with boats on Saipan. Most are pointed toward Korean or Chinese tourists. I would recommend Axe Murderer Tours out of Saipan for a dive service. They can set up boats and do most anything that you want. Lots of experience. 2. There are several hotels on the island...

Share from the weekend in Saipan

Exploring more of the sites around Saipan. In the harbor there is so much to see and explore. Between Eagle Rays, sharks, wrecks, and normal tropical kine stuff, it's been great. Been here about a 15 months now and started diving about a year ago. Two dives at least every weekend. As simple as...

YAPPING ABOUT YAP (still) - 2017 TRIP REPORT & PIX

Saipan is having growing pains with these same issues as well. Not to take away from the informative and thoughtful trip report.

    Biggest thing killing dive shops?

This is so spot on! Great reply. I am brand new to diving. Less than a year and 50 dives in. I know nothing of what I should. But! I can read, I can educate myself, I can read these boards for opinions and I can analyze. Now I'm in Saipan, so it's somewhat different, but I tried to find gear...

Hunting through too much information- help on finding a new camera/housing/strobe setup?

I have the set up of the TG-5 with Olympus PT 58 housing. Inon tray with Single arm and an Inon S2000 strobe. I built it up here recently. Fits easily in my back-pack, feels robust, and easy to use. I do appreciate that I went out with just the camera snorkeling a few times for familiarity...

    hooking camera to BCD

I had my first outing with camera this weekend. I have one arm, but compact housing similar to yours. I liked stringing in between both shoulder straps on the front my BP/W. That way I had some redundancy on straps and it kept it up out of the way better. I used a eyebolt on one side and then...

Thanks all, I went ahead and ordered the cable as well. Seemed like the proper way to go.

    Quality Question

Didn't even see this thread when doing research for my 1st reg set, but just backs up that I made the right choice to go with Deep 6. Dove the regs a few times and admittedly, I have no depth of experience to speak on a good reg or a bad reg, but I'm fully happy with the product. The initial...

S-2000 and optical cable or TTL

Sure, I read through them tonight. But, I just was looking for some practical experience with the two. I ordered the strobe set up, but not the optical cord. So, I was feeling out if I could make do w/o it for right now, or if I need up giddity up go and order a cord to go along with it.
