    Deep Diving Bad Decision... Avoided

Thanks for posting. This article opened my eyes to something that I had experienced but was unable to put my thumb on concerning deep diving and CO2 retention. Density Discords: Understanding and Applying Gas Density Research

Time to hang up my wetsuit after near death on NYE

I completely understand... I had a similar experience on my 5th dive after my OW certificaion and I didn't dive for three years after that. I realized I didn't have the skills to stay safe and I couldn't count on divemasters to pick up the slack. But after years of absence I took a refresher...

    Deco hand signal?

Yep. I use wet gloves in the summer, but only when teaching (for flexibility). All other dives are dry gloves. Haven't seen many neoprene DS lately. But being flexible with which signals one can actually use is necessary. I know some who use the fist for 5 (or 50)... But it's not widely adopted...

    Deco hand signal?

I like it and I think it might catch on ;) But depending on the situation there are more ways to handle an emergency/urgency. If you get a cramp on a voluntary safety stop you might wanna surface, while on a deco stop you should probably stay put :)

    Deco hand signal?

Since diving conditions here in Sweden usually mandates using a flashlight it's pretty useful to have one-handed signals. The traditional two-handed safety stop signal is pretty weird to do with a flashlight in one hand. Therefore I've been trying to introduce the pinky as a signal not only for...

    Student Trouble With Nose Breathing

I would recommend the same as what the instructor said ("breathing at home with mask on focusing on not using nose"), but in the shower with the mask partially filled. Otherwise they won't exactly notice if they're not doing it wrong. Good luck!

    Mysterious regulator malfunction

It's at the shop now so I'll call them and have them investigate the hose. Again, thanks for your input! Most valuable!

    Mysterious regulator malfunction

Sounds plausible. After the bang I was focused on getting to the surface safely so I didn't really pay attention to any leaks or bubbles. And it kept giving me air during the ascent as well. The hose was brand new but could be faulty or may have been sitting on the shelf for quite a while. I...

    Mysterious regulator malfunction

Might be worth mentioning that it was 2°C/35°F air temperature and 6°C/43°F in the water.

    Mysterious regulator malfunction

Thanks for your input! And you're absolutely correct in assuming it's a miflex hose, but I wouldn't know if it's "real miflex". But what exactly is crystalizing and how did that lead to the pop and subsequent bang?

    Mysterious regulator malfunction

Not sure if this is the proper discussion group to post this in, but here we go. Had a (initially) pleasant first time diving in a limestone quarry. During our second dive, however, I had a weird regulator malfunction. Well, weird for my limited experience. It's a Mares Abyss 22x DIN...

    Minimizing deadly tendencies

Disclaimer: none of this is ment to be braggadocious. Just want to illustrate the contrast between my land based strength and what's useful for diving. It's not exactly a "personality trait" per se, but I've always been very reliant on my physique. Used to be a speed skater and, by any...
