I am travelling for the first time to the USA next September and will be doing a road trip in California.
As I will be around Monterey at some point, I would like to dive Point Lobos (on a Monday). Any dive shops that take divers there?
2mm will definitely not be enough.
Never dove there so I am writing what I heard.
Visibility can be poor even for Portuguese standards.
In Portimão you have 4 navy ships that were sunk for diving purposes.
Sagres may be better (western corner of Algarve).
Never been to the Azores in June, always in September so can't help there.
You can't dive Princess Alice from Santa Maria, just from Faial and Pico. The former is in the eastern group of islands, while the latter in the central group.
Santa Maria has Ambrósio which is closer to the island...
I started with a back-inflate BCD similar to the ones you are considering but there is still a difference to an actual BPW (to which I eventually changed).
As you are in Europe, I would recommend Tecline.
If you want to dive near Lisbon, I recommend Sesimbra, half an hour south. Try Anthia Diving: for sure they will rent you doubles, dunno about the BPW.
They are no GUE divers but some dive with them.
Or a cutting instrument which tends to be more useful. It does not have to be on the right waist strap.
You can still do it in Port Lincoln, Australia.
In portuguese the name of this hydrozoan would be "Portuguese Caravel" so a specific type of 15th century ship used on the discoveries vs the generic man o' war.
They are not uncommon in Portugal, specially in the Azores.
Very different from box jellyfish as the "body" of the Portuguese man o' war floats, and the tentacles are much longer (can reach 30m).
