@DevonDiver First of all, thanks for putting the effort into your response. How would you respond to the issue of the possibility of breathing the wrong gas for a single backmount diver with two slung cylinders?
Thanks again for your responses.
@divezonescuba Perhaps it has to do with marketing, but there are people, like me who don't want to do Tech45 etc, who do want to develop the skills taught in the Tech40 course. 40 meters is still within reasonable sport diving depths. I want to learn the gas...
Well actually they will. The first instructor I queried accepted this as a legit way to do it. @raftingtiger reported above that he did his Tech40 with single backmount. Its in the PADI equipment guidelines as an option. Lots of solo divers dive with a 5L bailout bottle. The deco dive would...
This is getting confusing. If you look at my original post, what I'm exploring is not sidemount and not backmount doubles. I'm exploring the idea of using a backmount single with redundant gas and deco gas slung. That is, one bottle on the back, two on the front.
My question relates to the fact that in Tech 40 you need to carry deco gas as well as whatever you are using for the rest of the dive. If you learn in SM you are already carrying 2 bottles. So for the deco dives you will have a the deco cylinder as well as the two you are side-mounting.
Thanks for the considered replies.
If one was to take the course with side-mount, wouldn't that mean slinging 3 tanks at some point. I am wondering what the qualitative difference is between diving with a single back-mount and 2 slung cylinders and diving with a side-mount configuration. This...
Hi all,
First post here. Please be gentle ...
Anyway, I was looking at a thread and came across Andy Davis article where he compares the PADI Deep Diver course with Tech 40. In outlining the equipment options he refers to single back-mount with appropriately sized pony bottle as an alternative...
