Future of Diving in 25 years or less

Extinction is inevitable, we just shouldn't accelerate the process.

Future of Diving in 25 years or less

Actually it won't, the planet we humans will leave behind will be a polluted cesspool devoid of complex life.

Future of Diving in 25 years or less

Judging from many of the glib comments regarding environmental concerns, I do not see fellow divers as conservationists for the most part.

Do I really need an expensive dive computer??

It's all about personal preference. My computer neither adds nor takes away from my diving experience.

Future of Diving in 25 years or less

You have faith in nature, but I have no faith in humans, and the scale of current environmental destruction by humans is not natural nor repairable by nature.

Future of Diving in 25 years or less

I want to see things change for the better, but I cannot picture the widespread cooperation among governments, industries, and individuals to course correct and preserve our aquatic environment.

Future of Diving in 25 years or less

Tis better not to think of such things and enjoy the present. Twenty five plus years from now will not be a pretty sight for the health of our oceans.

Dive and let dive... dealing with different styles of diving.

My checkout dives were done with cheap sporting goods mask snorkel and fins. I borrowed the neighbor's stab vest with no inflator attachment and his regulator. I wore thick socks since I didn't have booties and barely scraped enough together for the open water fees. It was a great time!

Dive and let dive... dealing with different styles of diving.

As my name suggests, I look like a complete doofus when I dive.

Don’t do illegal fishing in Indonesian water

Too little too late. For every one they confiscate, there are ten more that haven't been found.

Is there any demo video performing rescue skill - remove people from water

Unload as much weight as possible as you approach shore. Carrying an unconcious victim is a lot of dead weight, and you will likely be taxed from the dive already.

    Biggest thing killing dive shops?

Brick and mortar retail in general is a dying breed, it is no surprise that diving is following suit.

    Unrepresentative profile "logged dive" numbers?

My logging and failure thereof is just a product of laziness. I have the card, I go on a few vacation dives here and there, and have little need for a journal.

The last way that you can make money

I once asked my open water instructor if I should go the teaching route. His response was "sure, as long as you have another source of income!" I know he was joking around but there is so much truth to it. Teach because you enjoy teaching, not because you are looking for a career.
