You have faith in nature, but I have no faith in humans, and the scale of current environmental destruction by humans is not natural nor repairable by nature.
I want to see things change for the better, but I cannot picture the widespread cooperation among governments, industries, and individuals to course correct and preserve our aquatic environment.
My checkout dives were done with cheap sporting goods mask snorkel and fins. I borrowed the neighbor's stab vest with no inflator attachment and his regulator. I wore thick socks since I didn't have booties and barely scraped enough together for the open water fees. It was a great time!
Unload as much weight as possible as you approach shore. Carrying an unconcious victim is a lot of dead weight, and you will likely be taxed from the dive already.
My logging and failure thereof is just a product of laziness. I have the card, I go on a few vacation dives here and there, and have little need for a journal.
I once asked my open water instructor if I should go the teaching route. His response was "sure, as long as you have another source of income!" I know he was joking around but there is so much truth to it. Teach because you enjoy teaching, not because you are looking for a career.
