Popping sensation in 109 and 250 style regulators

Thanks guys. It does make sense, since switching to curly foot seemed to have reduced but not eliminated it. It’s a tough spot to inspect and work on. But I’ll take a look after I get my other reg set up and running.

I've been trying to talk myself out of tank jewelry, but you're not helping by posting pics like that!

I think I’m going to need a 250 air barrel (new or used) and a new volcano orifice 😞,

Popping sensation in 109 and 250 style regulators

You may be right. I thought I ordered a set that was known to work together, but here's a post about a similar issue using the newest 'curly foot' lever: https://scubaboard.com/community/threads/scubapro-109-150-lever-version.262927/post-6066092

Popping sensation in 109 and 250 style regulators

@stuartv mentioned experiencing this on his Halcyon regs so now I know it’s not just me or my particular reg. I’m wondering if anyone else experienced this? I have a 109 that has a ‘popping’ sensation when the valve opens: it’s like a step change in air delivery when the poppet reaches a...

    G260 vs alternatives

I everyone’s input! I don’t think I can really go wrong with any of these. At the very least I feel better about wanting to try different regs. I don’t have nearly the justification as many of you, but it’s a hobby and I love it just the same. Unfortunately the "hobbiness" makes me consider the...

    G260 vs alternatives

After a nice long dive playing with my 109 BA and 250, I realized how much I like the variable venturi, and also how much I dislike the location of it on the 250. It's interesting that SP has concentric knobs on the A700 and the like, but not on the 260. I saw an A700 in person (dry) and love...

Good diaphragm 1st stages for DIY

What are some good (preferably used) diaphragm 1st stages for DIY? I'm going to take a reg maintenance class and would like the experience of servicing a diaphragm 1st stage. Bonus points to something with a swivel turret that could replace one of my MK10s. I'd consider a new one but the dark...

Are Converted Scubapro 109's a weak link?

Thank you Nemrod. I updated my previous post as I had just assumed the 250 had a larger diaphragm due to the larger diameter case and "more natural" inhalation. Its kind of crazy that‘s all case geometry and Venturi then?! The sound is not the bubbles, it just seems the flowing air is louder -...

    G260 vs alternatives

Maybe some clarification is in order: I said "compact" but should have said refined. The 260 is physically smaller than the 250, not by much but it seems just tucked in enough in the right places to matter. I had the two side-by-side yesterday. And to be clear I’m looking at DGX Xtra, Dive...

Are Converted Scubapro 109's a weak link?

I have a near mint 109 with brand new BA conversion parts, paired with a near mint 250, with cracking effort tuned near identical. The 250 is louder, but more enjoyable to breathe from due to the larger exhalation valve and the Venturi. It’s not a huge difference but it’s noticeable. All that...

    G260 vs alternatives

Aloha, I’m considering a new reg. I’d like something like a G250 that’s quieter and a little more compact, which I imagine is a G260. I have converted BAs but like the 250 performance better. I’m curious how the offerings from DGX, Deep 6, Dive Rite and others compare. This would be a...

    D420! How about that?

It sounds like 'atypical position breathing' isn't the reason to buy a D420 (from this thread). I was getting excited about a shiny new reg, but now I guess I can be excited about an $80 D400 :) I like my 109s/250s, just wish they were a bit better in odd positions as I like playing around in...

Question buoyancy issues during 'open water' training

Kidding aside, it's great you want to learn but you'll work stuff like this out with experience. It's also good experience having things go 'not quite right' especially when there's an instructor around. Have fun and enjoy the process!

    D420! How about that?

102 pages is a lot to read through. How does the D420 work in atypical diving positions? It seems like they advertise it as such, but then I thought I read it's not actually much better than 109/250/260?

    Suggested operators Honolulu

I like Island Divers. They're the same company as Honolulu Scuba Co so they can help you book dives out of both Honolulu and Hawaii Kai. Hawaii Kai diving has drifts and different options, and Island Divers shop is a bit more relaxed and island style.

    Electrical wire jacket repair suggestions?

I contacted the manufacturer and was able to get to the distributor through them. Thanks for the advice. I suggested that was a better route than trying to DIY and my friend agreed.

    Electrical wire jacket repair suggestions?

@rmssetc yes it's Thermalution, and it looks like it's just the black (PVC?) jacket. That is the owners picture, she wrote insulation but that's not what I'd call it. Thanks for the info.
