    A tank for non-breating air?

I've had tanks (got free from LDS because of various reasons) that at first look seemed terribly rusty and not worth it - but after a good tumble they look great inside - no deep pits, just what looked like lots of rust. Tumble it out, and have a decent vis shop take a look. If you can find a...

Will an older 72 cu. steel tank take a modern K regular valve?

I have several Norris tanks - which those seem to be. They are either the teflon 1/2 tapered or normal K valves (3/4) valves. Is that valve smaller than a normal valve? As 2TH DIVR mentioned - it does look like a Healthways 1/2 straight valve like I have for a old WK, but didn't know Norris...

Trip Report Bonaire March 2024–Dead reefs

True - for now. I don't want to be all doom and gloom. But the changes I've seen to Little Cayman (2018 to 2024 - and first trip in 1995) and Bonaire (2022 to 2023 and first trip in 1998) for reef and fish life is downright scary to me for what may be around in 10 years even. I love diving...

MK10 Rebuilding Mods and Best Practices

I have (I think) 9 MK10's (one is actually an mk10+) now and have been servicing them for 10 years now. Outside the very first one I got new in 1993, the rest were all ebay purchases - first to get my two boys the same gear I have and then to get extras/spares/pony use. Many were under $40...

Trip Report Bonaire March 2024–Dead reefs

I was there in Nov 2023 and previously July of 2022. The difference in that year was startling to me. I was also depressed and have no plans to go back to Bonaire unless there are reports of significant turnaround on the reef health. I had also been there over 20 years ago and that was just...

Ever dove with a UV light?

I got this one: UniqueFire D03 off Amazon and was happily surprised how bright it was underwater. It didn’t seem like it would be but had great range and was brighter than others on my trip. It says it’s 365nm and if it’s not, it’s at least closer than some other non-dive lights I have,

Ever dove with a UV light?

if you have a "blue" light - or weak UV (395nm range) the yellow filter should enhance the fluorescence. If you have a full UV (365nm range), I don't think the yellow filter is needed or does as much as it's used to filter out the blue light.

Ever dove with a UV light?

By far not my best video - but a short using UV light: There are different corals that reflect differently - some were green, some were bright gold, the short just shows some of the bleached coral glowing nicely. There were others around me with white lights too - again not my best video.

Can I use my 11 year old wetsuit?

My farmerjohn/shorty (I think 7mm) wetsuit from '94 is now used by my youngest son after the older boy grew out of it (I "grew" out of it by the time the oldest boy started diving). It's still in good shape and being used. I'm sure it leaks more than it did when I used it for ice diving in the...

New Old Regulators for new diver.

I have about 10 of the mk10’s now. Great 1st’s. I had one (when certified in ‘93), then bought the same for my boys, then bought spares, then some for the pony bottles. I have mostly G200b seconds. I service them all myself but I think the LDS will still service them.

Question Downsides of hydro testing more often than 5 years?

Yeah that was 86-87, so a bit more than 10 years. Just ignorance to manufactures specs and tank lifespans. But I doubt I will ever own tanks there so not on my worry list. 😜

Question Downsides of hydro testing more often than 5 years?

I have been to Australia just once around 2015 - the dive shop there said tanks over 10 years old were no longer any good. I was just passing through so didn't question it - but out of my dozen+ tanks I think only 2 pony bottles are in that range - most are steel 72's from the 60s-70s (that...

    sorry corrected post - D30 4000 - my apologies - too many 4's.

Question Downsides of hydro testing more often than 5 years?

Agree - although almost all my tanks are old steel '72s and I want them plus stamped so not overly commodity tanks these days - I've only found one hydro place within hours of me that will do that and last time due to changes there it was a 4+ month process to get them done. So my hydros are...

What type of switch you prefer on dive lights?

Is the D30 4000 considered a rotary switch. I bought one but even after the warnings and video on leaking and being sure to check the o-rings, it leaked on the first and only dive it was used. It was past the return time as I bought it a while before my trip. I liked the look and the options...

What type of switch you prefer on dive lights?

my canister light is just on/off (no adjustments or levels) - it's old switch leaked, so I sealed it and built a magnetic slide switch - works great. For a multi-setting light -the push button works well.

What dive sites should I visit in Belize

I dove off Glover's atoll and it was fantastic - it's the only diving in Belize I've done, but one of my top trips ever.

Unpressurised Dry Suit for Shallow Surface Supplied Air Diving

It's been 20+ years since I did a dry suit dive - are there any "manual" inflation options for a drysuit - i.e. breath in and use whatever hose/adaptor to then breath air into the drysuit like a manual bcd inflation? Probably get some water in that way - but maybe that would be acceptable if...
