Continue or stop diving with a PFO?

PFO closure is routine intervention in every European university level hospital for stroke patients. Since most European countries have universal public healthcare which covers indications like stroke prevention, there isn't wide availability for such procedures in private clinics. I'd expect...

Continue or stop diving with a PFO?

Why did you have a TEE screening done (only bends or also other suspicion of underlying heart conditions? Of course that might be personal information you might not want to share online. Anyway that indication probably includes a lot of information needed when deciding how to manage this. I...

Apeks 1st stage diaphragm clamp leaks

In real life, yes it is. Some unofficial 3rd party tests show that Mk17 doesn't overcompensate and behaves well down to quite extreme pressures. The Halcyon branded Mk17 version is a popular oxygen 1st stage in some GUE-JJCCR circles and seems to perform well in deep expedition diving. Design...

How to restore a Diaphragm First Stage with IP Creep

picture?? I am trying to figure out what is the profile of your micromesh tip made this way, or what would be ideal shape to polish Apeks volcano. Great work, I just got my hands on some micromesh.

Regulator Service Tech Training - Tool Splitoff

KNIPEX 86 03 125 Mini-pliers wrench is very good. This far I haven't found anything in scuba where it would not substitute a thin wrench.

Regulator Service Tech Training - Tool Splitoff

Apeks 1st stage service kit has a good o-ring bullet. That red plastic HP seat protective cover doubles as an o-ring bullet, actually better than brass bullets shown above. Yes I felt stupid when I realized this after buying a pair of bullets.

Trying to put together a flow limiter / pressure gauge combination

I wonder if there is a pressure gauge with M12/1 thread that would fit directly.

Apeks 1st stage diaphragm clamp leaks

Yes, what I mean is that the leak in the video is huge. I have picked up less evident ones in predive bubble checks. Sort of small leaks that someone could be tempted to "follow" for a dive. Especially if not recognizing the potentially disastrous origin from diaphragm seal.

Apeks 1st stage diaphragm clamp leaks

@barth video describes very well what I am talking about. Of course it is not always that pronounced in the beginning, but definitely a constant leak. Din connector thread getting loose and leaking from the joint between 1st stage body and the DIN connector is another common problem. Using...

Apeks 1st stage diaphragm clamp leaks

My recent experience is that one of the more common failure points in Apeks 1st stages (DST, DS4, US4) is that leaks appear between the 1st stage body and diaphragm clamp (AP1473). I have experienced this with several regulators approaching their recommended 2 year service interval. The...

    HP splitter service?

    It has 4 o-rings: 011, 012 and two 014s inside. Probably softer than Sh90.

    HP splitter service?

Yes, very simple once it started to disassemble.

    HP splitter service?

Mine doesn't have a c-clip. Just as simple threaded joint which required some brute force to open.

    HP splitter service?

I can't see a C clip, where should it be?

    HP splitter service?

Has anyone taken apart one of these? How does it disassemble? Are there user servicable parts like orings inside and what are their sizes? A swiveling HP splitter

    Contacts vs Prescription lens?

Contacts are great for diving. A bit of a nuisance during courses with mask removals. Otherwise just fine. If prescription allows, disposable contact lenses are preferred.

    new Application "Gas blender toolkit"

Order can be changed in the settings. There is even O2, topoff, He order. Convenient when topping off small diluent cylinders with high pressure helium available.

    Home fill station for dummies?

Interesting... According to manuals, it doesn't display "Argon" It should display "Foul air" if the result doesn't fit a mixture of oxygen, helium and air. This is enough to pick up serious argon contamination and warn about unexpected result, but it does not detect argon. AFAIK measured...

    Home fill station for dummies?

They have high quality standards, but anything can happen. If you are using a divesoft analyser, it should pick this up and display foul air (trimix containing significant argon contamination).

    Shearwater AI w/ Oxygen

I dive a JJ with two transmitters attached to the first stages (with a hp splitter and a short hose). Transmitters are located inside the frame close to my butt without any connectivity issues. Thus it might not be just the distance. Orientation of the transmitter is very important, it has a...
