    Compass Deviation Issue

Cheers - M² Was the digital compass affected by the magnet on the magnetic compass?

    ScubaPro Aladin Sport

I recently upgraded to a Shearwater and I'm selling my ScubaPro Aladin Sport. I purchased it in the spring and it has about 30 dives on the dive log. It's in excellent shape with no scratches or damage. Comes with the original box, user manual, and ScubaPro dive log software DVD. Price includes...

    Compass Deviation Issue

Musta been some underwater anomaly that messed it up. We have a draw bridge here in town. It has some real huge geared electric motors on it that raise and lower it when larger boats need to pass under it. I was hunting sheepshead around the piling last year. North points inland into the...

    Compass Deviation Issue

You can accidentally reverse magnetize the needle also. Had a chick one time I was diving with who used one of those magnetic octo holders. One magnet clips on your BC and the other magnet clips on the 2nd stage and they stick together to hold the octo. I liked it at first because you just had...

Do you actually see people diving with pony bottles?

I'd bet you are right. A decade ago when I had a real job and had to do adult stuff every day, I swore I'd never buy a $400 tank and have the maint. and fees for hydro/vis when I could just rent one at the shop for five bucks. For some reason, it cost me the same to get my tank filled as it...

Do you actually see people diving with pony bottles?

I get "corrected" a lot of times by people I don't know who condemn the "solo dive" if it's brought up in conversation. Then I ask them, "Well, when we arrive at the dive site, and I take the anchor and jump in alone and go 70 feet to tie us into the wreck so you guys can all dive, isn't that...

Do you actually see people diving with pony bottles?

So you can detect metal fatigue in a cylinder just by looking at it? Man, you need to hurry up and patent that process before someone does it first and becomes a billionaire. All this time we've been sending them off to Duke Marine Lab for complicated tests in a water tank and using expensive...

Do you actually see people diving with pony bottles?

Well, if we're diving based probability of catastrophic accident, 1:10,000 or whatever, the best mitigation is just don't dive if it's that much of a concern for you. You can be 100% sure of not dying on a dive if you stay out of the water. Sure, I could carry three of everything and have...

    Yelled at for MOF

I use hard. I tried the soft weights but they wanted to bunch all up in a wad inside the weight pouch so the issue with getting them in and out was worse with them. The hard weights are only about an inch thick so the weight pouch stays the same thickness.

    Perdix AI compass

Wow. That sounds like a lot. Was the replacement the same brand/type? I'm interested in seeing how much MF variance I get from replacing an alkaline battery with a lithium battery.

    Perdix AI compass

The positive pole of a DC battery is made of steel (iron). Electrons have to move for an electromagnetic field to be present. You can swipe a screwdriver tip across a magnet just twice and and it will pick up screws. A digital compass only needs a very tiny magnetic field, so literally any...

I have a steel 100 and an aluminum 80. I need 22 with the aluminum and 16 with the steel. So I just keep 12 in the BC and I have two belts. My "steel" belt has 4 and my "aluminum" belt has 10. I currently have three 2 lbs blocks in each pocket. Decades ago before I got old and fat I only...

    Perdix AI compass

You can use this cool site to find your declination. It's either a "plus" or "minus" number. For digital compasses just plug that number into the declination setting. Then when you're compass tells you you're heading North, you'll actually be heading North, not North-by-East or...

My integrated weights interfere. Maybe it's the AquaLung design. If I have very much in the pockets, the weights won't slide all the way in and lock into place. The weights seem to occupy the same "space" but theres a nylon divider separating the cargo pocket from the weight pouch area. I'd...

    Perdix AI compass

Declination is different from calibration. You calibrate the compass to account for the magnetic interference the battery causes to the magnetic field. Dry batteries have an iron core. Compasses don't like iron. I have to calibrate my Perdix every time I change the battery. You declinate the...

Looking for a REAL dive ladder for my boat

I finally got tired of the flimsy little ladders. All I ever had was the ones that fold up flat. They all folded up like cardboard with a wet diver in gear on them. Got this one last year. Its real heavy stainless. It's worked good for me all summer on my 17 skiff. WEST MARINE...

Is the DPV considered a "boat"?

I'd say *technically* they are correct. The statute definition reads "capable of being used as a means of transportation on the water". You certainly could use a DPV on the surface even though it isn't designed for that. But I think it is a long stretch to try to make a DPV fit into the...

Dan Travel Insurance failed us again are there any better alternatives

For what it's worth, DAN isn't an insurance company. They just resell insurance for a commission. The company they write for is Travel Guard Group, Inc. They are the actual insurance company. So if you hunt around for new insurance, make sure they aren't writing for Travel Guard Group, Inc...

Isn't that when I'm suppose to use the whistle and signal mirror and SMB the Scuba police says I have to haul around with me? If my mask is on my face or around my neck and I'm tooting my whistle and flashing the SOS with my high speed signal mirror and my SMB is sticking up 8 feet over the...
