    Diving in Veneto, Italy

Any experience and information in diving in the Veneto region of Italy would be greatly appreciated, I’ll be moving there from the states in a few months and would like to know where to start. About me, I am a technical diver that has spent most of my time on the East Coast of the US diving...

    Solo diving in shallow water

I really so no issues with this, get a couple line cutting devices and a BFK, and a marker buoy with flag and have some fun. I dive solo on wrecks beyond 40m with both hard and soft overhead. The most important thing is knowing your abilities, and being comfortable in the water. PADI, NAUI...

No, it’s one more thing to get caught on things or for you to break

Dive Computer for "Holiday Diver" with good Free Diving / Apnea functionality

Never for free diving, but it can’t be that difficult. It’s a very simple and easy computer. You’ll be glad to have it while you watch all the other vacation divers pulling out their old computer they used once years ago, and asking the dive master how it works, and then get angry when the DM...

Dual-bladder or single-bladder? The whys and wherefores...

Yes, when it’s 100 plus degrees, and humid getting into my dry suit, and sitting on a boat waiting to splash is hardly appealing. I’m neutrally buoyant with my BC, and wetsuit, so I call it a day. The water is also in the mid 80s, I don’t care what my base layer is, in a dry suit I sweat like...

Dual-bladder or single-bladder? The whys and wherefores...

In tec diving, you have redundancy for everything, including buoyancy, if you don’t have a dry suit you need a duel bladder BC. Period. With reels, lights, stage bottles, doubles, tools, there is no way you are swimming your gear to the surface if your BC fails. I dive in N.C. with steel...

Dive Computer for "Holiday Diver" with good Free Diving / Apnea functionality

I have a zoop, it’s a good computer at a good price, and is pretty intuitive to use. The algorithm is nit what I would prefer, but I’m also a tec diver so I mostly use a shearwater now. The zoop allows for Nitrox, is conservative enough, and if you bust ndl will get you up more than safely.

    Primary or alternate donate poll

If i have one to donate its my primary, my secondary is on an 18in hose. Granted I almost always dive my tec rig, as i prefer to dive solo in rec settings over an insta buddy due to the sheer incompetence of others. When i dive a single tank and dive solo, I only have my primary regulator...

    Kids wet suits

I started diving around their age, and honestly suits have come a long way. However i would say depending on what water temps they are used to a 2/3mm surfing rash guard would suffice, or a 3mm shortie. Ive seen kids on dive boats in NC/SC without wetsuits when the water is in the 70s. It...

Lionfish - are predators getting a taste for them

In my opinion, no. They are growing in numbers in North Carolina, about the only thing slowing their population growth is fisherman chilling them whenever they catch one, and spear fisherman in dive boats killing every last one in a dive site. I’ve been seeing their. Umbers grow in the warmer...

Computer decision - buy or don't buy

Your in Rhode Island, my honest advice is get one. And get the standard, a shearwater. The amiunt of great diving in your area, will allow you to grow and gain a vast amount of experience.your going to need a computer that will last, and continue to be a tool you can use as you progress. I made...

    Dive tables for accelerated decompression

The standard ppO2 that was once assumed to be the rule for deco in the early tec days was 2.0 for deco. The us military still assumes this ppO2 as well. It’s not ideal, but if you pay attention to your oxygen loading and are in an oh **** situation the risk can be assumed

    Dive tables for accelerated decompression

The US Navy dive manual has the tables and a pdf can be found with a little googling. BUT be forewarned the navy assumes significant risk with oxygen toxicity and ppO2. I advise taking deco procedures, and advanced nitrox prior to any accelerated deco dives.

    How Did You Go Solo?

I’ve been diving since I was around 12, until I was an adult I always dove with my dad, who was both an instructor and an army combat diver (rebreather qualified, and would do long deep dives on air). After a a hiatus from diving in college, I came back and started going on boats and getting...

    Wing Issues

I think I really need to look at my wings ability to fully inflate, unfortunately I think it’s time for an upgrade to a duel bladder regardless. Has anyone used the oms Trieste 60lb? My concern it’s abilty to fully expand

    Wing Issues

Two issues occurred. 1) the boats tie in on the wreck failed, and 2) my insta buddy and I became separated. The tie in point was not all that great for me to tie my up line off to, so I identified another point on the wreck, sent my marker up, tied it off, and began my trip to the surface...

    Wing Issues

I ended up spending 15 unplanned minutes on the bottom, and in a tight spot, that reserve starts to deplete rapidly. Add to the chaos, that the hook came off the wreck at the tie in point, doing a deco on an emergency up-line. Was not a fun thing, but i came out with roughly 700PSI for my...

    Wing Issues

At 130 ft for 40 minutes I’m looking at 20 minutes of deco, with two different deco gasses. But defiantly could drop the 02 bottle for an 80 with EAN50. Unfortunately i found myself in a situation a few years ago where my stage bottles, were what kept me safe, when a dive went very, very...

    Wing Issues

Correction it is the classic 60lb wing. Also the al40s are necessary, I tend to do longer dives with 40 minutes of bottom time ideally, in the range of 115-130 ft. So accelerated deco is preferred. The 133s are a new addition to my kit that have inky made a few appearances on trips. Previously...

    Wing Issues

Currently Ive been having issues with buoyancy. How much lift do most of y’all require when you are diving doublke HP133s? I’m curious as to whether my wing does not have enough lift or, its bad fit for my tanks, with my aluminum back plate and no weight belt. I have a dive rite horseshoe...
