Thank you for this, although I am talking about the shore diving in Bonaire rather than diving on a boat, which is one of the best things about the diving in Bonaire and why it’s so cheap. If I go again I will perhaps try using the ScubaBoard or a buddy site, as I don’t necessarily want to spend...
You make some very good points, and often times I’m asked to buddy up with either inexperienced divers or nervous divers because of my training, which does leave me vulnerable as they probably don’t have the first clue about how to “rescue” me in a situation, especially if they are a newly...
This was an older post that has been revived...when I first started diving we didn't have octopus rigs, and we were trained to rescue our budding sharing our regulator.
Part of the training we had to bring someone to the surface from 20 metres sharing air, and they were not allowed to help with...
Hi Richard,
Thank you for replying.
The level of experience and the number of dives I've done would qualify me to solo dive, but I personally don't agree with diving solo. It goes against all the teaching I've received with BSAC, and all the teaching I've taught when I used to teach diving at...
In all the time I've dived I haven't lost my mask, but at the end of a night dive on the Thistlegorm wreck in the Red Sea, the current was so strong my mask was being pushed off my face, but even then I didn't lose my mask.
Three moments to share with you, as possible "oh crap" moments...

Hi - the last time I dived Bonaire I went with a partner who dived with me, and the diving was great and cheap! But my wife doesn't dive, but I'd love to go back to Bonaire and dive there, but it's about getting a dive buddy. So what do you do about a dive buddy in Bonaire?
I appreciate this is an old post, but having just written about negative entry diving on my diving blog, I came across this post and wanted to answer this question here too.
The application you are missing is using a negative entry in a strong current, for example when I've dived Elphinstone...
A dive computer for me is a must have bit of diving kit. Whilst I started diving before they were used, I can't imagine going diving without one. It's a bit like using a satnav (or GPS for The Americans on here) when you drive to somewhere new - I can't imagine going back to using old style maps...
I was discussing the safety aspects of using 'in-water recompression' in the situation where a recompression chamber is not nearby - i.e. more that a day or more from the dive site.
Has anyone had any experience of using this form or recompression/decompression?
Has anyone got views on the...
I don't think I said to chum the water with lionfish, as I agree this wouldn't be good. I don't think I'd like to freely dive in chummed water with frenzied sharks!
Mine are a couple of things that are great memories...
Putting my naked hand inside a seals mouth and it gently nibbling it like a dog; This was in the Farne Islands in the UK.
Counting over 30 seahorses on a single dive in Barbados was really exciting for me.
Coming literally face to face...
Ah man, my favourite wreck - love the Thistlegorm! Really jealous. Do you know I also did my best ever night dive on the Thistlegorm and saw two of the biggest sleeping turtles on it. Will have to go back at some point.
