For the record (if it matters to anyone) I do dive a JJ, I am fully trained with both trimix diving as well as cave diving and have dove at Eagles Nest.
The narrative given above leads to some questions as well as some assumptions that can be made on the conditions of the dive. Note that I...
There are three local GUE instructors in the bay area. I am sure any of them would be willing to help you out.

All come with very strong recomendations.
I also have this issue when diving tropical waters. The solution is to just add a few more pounds to the top cam band until your trim is more comfortable.
The 3 mm suits don't compress much at depth so you don't loose much buoyancy and being a couple of pounds extra overweighted should not...
Unfortunatly, DSS plates are a bit of a minus. I personally would not recommend them for doubles if you ever plan on doing a bit of travel. The bend in the center channel of DSS plates is pretty shallow which causes issues on doubles with shorter or medium length bolts.
Having to stand on...
Sounds like it was a really fun dive.
Just a quick question. In your report, you mentioned placing a 70' bottle. What was the thinking regarding why you wanted to do this?
I was going more with the OP subject header which was "The State of sidemount in DIR/GUE?" which was a bit more fuzzy.
But your right. This topic is not going to go anywhere. Same old rehash.
On what is going on with UTD, I would have to agree with you. I have been scratching my head for a while now.
In regards to the GUE guys in Mexico, I would say it says all you need to say about their diving they are doing rather then it beeing necessary or not. They are diving in caves that...
Since the thread was closed perhaps a bit to quickly, I opened a new thread.
As had been said before, currently GUE offers no coursed in sidemounting.
But has been questioned before, is GUE the regulator of all things DIR? Not wanting to rehash this tired question, I will just comment...
I still believe it is a bit of a weak arguement. We did a three stage dive up in hole in the wall on Saturday and none of the bottle manipulations were anywere close to having an effect on pulling on the light cord or long hose with stage/scooter manipulation. But then I am not using a right...
This is a bit of weak argument. Exactly how loop of light cord ~3' long will prevent an immediate donation escapes me. At the very worst, one still has the length of the hose from the regulator, around the neck and almost to the waist available for deployment. This is as long, if not longer...
Looking at your profile you are not cave trained?
So if you are going to dive them without any training, the answer to: which cave is safest for a new diver?
None of them. All can and kill you and you are advised to stay out.
If you want to get a taste of the caves down in Mexico, go...
If you want to get into cave diving, Advanced Nitrox, Decompression procedures and probably extended range TDI courses will be of pretty limited use down in Mexico as almost all of the caves down in Riveria Maya are less then 30 meters deep.
Double AL tanks are the standard for cave diving in...
