The title says it all. I would like to explore the cavern at Jackson Blue Springs on Monday, July 2nd. I have already been there once with a buddy. I am only cavern certified but getting Intro to Cave in August.
There are some beautiful basins around some of the springs in Florida. Aren't there also some "sinkholes" or are those the same thing as springs? I am fine having light and air 100ft or fewer above me while I learn. I even had the idea of doing a scuba "float" down a river but something tells me...
I am super impressed by you folks diving in the ocean. To me, THAT seems super dangerous with all of the currents and wave action sloshing you around. Of all my dives, the most difficult were my open water dives out on the reefs near Tulum. I found the cenotes and caverns MUCH easier and more...
What you said "right before you tied into the gold line"....
Exactly... We never saw any of the parts of the cavern before where we tied into the gold line. We took a wrong turn in the very beginning and went on a route underneath the normal route through the cavern.
There were no signs on the...
I can prove I didn't pass a grim reaper sign because I have video of the entire entrance, laying line. We went down and to the left. We found the gold line, I assume, well past any sign.
We were told the end of the cavern zone was signified by a knot in the gold line which we didn't see until...
In line with this, is there a list of good "Beginner Caverns" or even "Beginner Caves" (once I am certified) where the chance of a silt out for example is very, very low or where there are no restrictions or side tunnels, etc...?
I did not cross a grim reaper sign. The route we took in the initial cavern somehow bypassed the sign location.
I did not know we were out of the light zone until we turned around and covered our lights to see how dark it was.
After I complete fundies and intro and get a ton more experience I...
Also, I do not enter into any situation or blindly follow anyone, no matter their status, into any situation in which I do not feel I am capable of surviving independently.
FYI I have a mentor who is my dive buddy and he has 2000 total dives over 50 years and 80 cave dives. I also have my instructors who I respect and am seeking additional training and practice.
It was a brief pass through between two open areas in a cenote and I felt perfectly safe the entire time and I’m not throwing my instructor under the bus.
