Is limited solo diving completely insane for a new diver?

I still consider myself a new diver - certified just over 2 yrs ago - with about 55 dives logged. If I only dove when I had a buddy available, I would have about 1/3 the dives & and probably still be struggling with the basics. I had personal reasons for wanting to improve my skills asap, and...

Diving trips with a snoring partner.

I'm late to this party - all home CPAPs are portable; but there have been some developed specifically for travel...smaller & lighter than the current models (which are already small & light) As an example, check out the Dream Station Go

Owning cylinders - is it worth it?

I didn't stop to check your location; but your statement makes no sense (at least for my location). The difference between an air fill vs tank rental is so minimal (here) that it would have taken me years to reach ROI. Buying tanks, for me, only made sense for the convenience factor.

    New Regulator Buying Advice

I started with the Aqualung Mikron... while I had no complaints with it, I was told that I couldn't use it for a course because it wasn't rated for the conditions (temperature). I now use a ScubaPro MK17EVO/G260/R195 - while I do notice the weight difference; I prefer this over the Mikron (I...

    Lake George NY Conditions

I was at Hearthstone last week. Temp at 60 ft was 51 degrees. Visibility was okay - maybe 20 ft - but it did seem more silty than usual in some areas. I'll probably be up there this week, at some point, and will be able to comment on current temps.

    Cardiologist said no

That's a pretty serious workup, if it was all related to your inquiry. Im not sure whether I'd be appreciative of, or annoyed by the thoroughness, lol. If he's saying you should not do it, it's a pretty good bet that he won't sign off on the medical form. (You can always bring the forms to...

Owning cylinders - is it worth it?

I'm a new diver - got my OW cert 7/2017 - and I purchased my own tanks in the spring of 2018. The cost difference between renting and filling is minimal... but the convenience factor, for me, is huge. I consider it money well spent for that reason alone. That said, I'm not sure how I ended...

    New divers: Gear and Instructors

Are you diving warm or cold water? I live in the northeastern US; and have had ear problems in cold local waters. Generally, wearing a hood is enough to mitigate the issues for me. I can go without during pool sessions, or if I stay shallow during late summer dives...but if I hit the...

    Time for Flu shots

I personally know three people that had significant reactions (as in, months out of work) attributed to flu vaccinations...and it was the specialists overseeing their care that said it was from the vaccine. I know 3 is an incredibly small number; but since I know those people, it carries some...

    Time for Flu shots

My decision is not taken lightly, nor is it emotional. I will, however, admit that the small part of me that was starting to consider the vaccine (because I hit that magic age) changed its mind when Big Brother decided to get involved. I'm familiar with it...and, while I don't denounce it, the...

    Time for Flu shots

Nope - I'll wear the mask, thanks. It's far more effective than the flu shot; and protects against other things, as well.

    Doing the Newbie thing

Scuba and financially responsible in the same sentence?? Lol... you might be waiting until your girls are married. (It's not that bad, really, just buy smart & don't go crazy. Jump in!)

    OCi or D4i or i450t

I recently bought an i450t. I'm relatively inexperienced; but I'm confident it will meet my needs for the foreseeable future. (I've only got maybe 8 dives in it). The reality is that, if I hadn't become somewhat obsessed with the idea of AI, I probably would have been satisfied with the i300.

Training can you do too much too soon?

I had already checked prices - some were crazy. I wouldn't be opposed to paying a bit of a premium for the opportunity to do it on a winter getaway...but I wouldn't pay exorbitant prices. (There's also the factor of me not being willing to take a full First Aid/CPR/AED course...and I'm not...

Training can you do too much too soon?

I finished up my specialties and got my advanced scuba diver certification. At the end, when the instructor realized I had enough dives to qualify for the Rescue course, he invited me to participate in the class he's doing this weekend. I had to decline because I felt it would have been too...

Perdix AI - what does "MOD" parameter stand for?

Typically, it stands for Maximum Operating Depth. There are charts available; but I'm guessing that your computer either provides the MOD or allows you to set one (for alarm purposes)

    Hearthstone Point navigation

Ouch, sorry to hear that, @Kharon I slipped there months ago, before the swim lines were up, and my right elbow still isn't right. (Functional, but can't rest rest it on a flat surface without pain. Wouldn't be surprised if it chipped or had a crack - I'll just continue making sure it's off...

    Regulator Suggestions for the Wife

I prefer my ScubaPro Mk17Evo/G260 over my Mikron...but the Mikron still felt better than what I used during my OW course.
