Jellyfish Lake in Palau officially re-opens.

Good news for anyone headed to Palau.

    Quick Palau trip report

It is typically referred to as the "other" jellyfish lake. It does have jellyfish. I have been there twice. Once in the '80s and once more recently. There are a total of 5 jellyfish lakes I believe. The one that is open to visiting has paved walkway and steps and hand rails and such.. The...

    Quick Palau trip report

There is also a possibility of visiting one of the other jelly fish lakes. You would need someone to assist you in getting permission from the Koror government, not the easiest thing but it really depends on who is helping you and who they know personally, and that is really the biggest hurdle...

    Key Largo (and NJ) recommendations

Excellent post Caruso! I also dive with Conch Republic almost exclusively, for all the reasons you mentioned. It is just a much more relaxed and enjoyable experience. *edit - fixed typo

It is technically open but most dive operators have agreed to not take any trips there because of the reduced population of the jellyfish.

    China travel ban to Palau

The general consensus in Palau is that the reduction in Chinese tourism is a good thing. One of the big problems is that most of the mainland Chinese tourists are completely packaged and do not spend any money in the local economy. Their numbers and disregard for etiquette around the reef does...

Can someone from the USA disprove this video?

The Runit dome was a half-assed effort to clean up the island to make it inhabitable. It was too expensive to haul the debris away in 55 gallon drums as had been done in other places. And the area was too contaminated for any kind of clean-up to make it suitable for regular habitation.

Where is the Best Overall diving in Australia/Oceania?

I am with drbill on Palau. It has a great variety in a reasonable area. It also has a lot of sites that are far off the beaten path, and not frequented by the regular divers and tours. Now, the OP references a massive area so "best" would need some additional criteria to define.

I don't think there is a hard and fast rule for the length.

The tether is usually 36(ish) inches. That is my best eyeball guess, I haven't actually measured it though.

    Quick Palau trip report

This was the most divers that I saw at one time at Blue Corner. This is the plateau where you would hook in to watch all the life flying through the current. My dive partner is the one in foreground. On that dive we were only able to stay there for a second because we did not have our hooks...

    Quick Palau trip report

Well, last week the conditions were excellent and the dive sites were not busy since it is low season. I got some rain and some rougher seas for a few hours on Saturday afternoon. Keep in mind that, being Palau, the weather and conditions can change day to day and hour to hour. However, the...

Florida Keys in November - my plan so far

Check out Conch Republic Divers, they are out of Tavernier Key which is just south of Key Largo so it is a bit less of a drive for you. They are great, not crowded and not rushed with time. Very relaxed and enjoyable operation and very nice people.

    Quick Palau trip report

I was in Palau last week visiting my family and doing some diving and snorkeling. I dove Blue Corner, German Channel and the Helmet Wreck. It is low season so there were not many boats out which was nice as it can get a bit crowded during the high season. Since most people come to dive the...

Critique my GoPro 6 lights for Tray

The setup looks good. I have a similar setup with a hero 6 but with 2000 lumen lights and a Knekt KDT tray, I like the thumb actuated shutter. I rarely run my lights at the 2000 lumen setting though. I primarily do stills. If you do stills, make sure you take your pictures in RAW because it...

New diver in Florida in October - good time?

October should be just as fine as any other month weather-wise, meaning completely variable and just play it by ear. But the water is nice and warm and perfect for diving. If you need any recommendations in the Keys, let me know.
