swapping everything around is a PITA, so we have separate sets for everything. Between the wife and I, we have 2 doubles regsets, 2 single tank regsets, and a spare single tank setup we take travelling with us.

At your experience level, Sandals diving would be fine. I'd do that, and save the cash for other diving, more training, more gear, etc... Once you've got your dive count up a bit, you'll be better able to take advantage of the benefits of using a local Op.

looking at it now, I don't see a lock mechanism. I wish it had a mechanical lock like the d26 2500. That might be a dealbreaker for me.

Atomics for me.... Between my wife and I, we have 7 first stages, (all DIN and sealed) and 11 2nd stages. They're a mix of Z2, B2, and M1. They've all been used down into the high 30°s without issue. (Great Lakes) They've been dead nuts reliable for us. Unsealed may yield different results...

you could use bulkier plastic triglides....and they wont eat into the carbon plate with friction

I think this is very true in this case... just like use of the Long hose, and BP/W. These things are somewhat common where we dive locally (Great Lakes) but we hardly ever see it when we travel south. People are often confused when they see our rigs...

Great Lakes divers here. Like Marie said.... we do it ourselves up here. The boats are basically water taxis. I like it that way...

this is exactly what we do. we bring along a couple nicely filled single 100s, and top up our doubles if we're doing a third shallow dive in the afternoon.
