Thanks for those really informative answers, and thanks to Doc for including that video! I also found this thread, which I had not seen earlier: When is the best time of the year to dive Roatan? We are looking at flights and hotels as well and will make a decision about when and where to go soon.
Hi
We are thinking about a trip to Roatan in the first week of January. We are wondering if it is worth it, or if January is too rainy there. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Hey fellow divers,
Just looking at some tourist info on Chantry Island off Southampton. Has anyone ever dove the Island or the causeway? If so, what was it like?
Thanks!
I dive with one contact in, one contact out. That works well for me, because I'm near-sighted in both eyes plus have presbyopia. So on land, I wear contacts for distance, and for reading, put reading glasses over them. For diving, I wear my contact in one eye, and leave the other eye bare. So...
Hi,
One of my dive buddies has a blood pressure at the low end of normal, around 90/60. Twice lately, when she was diving a drysuit with a latex neck seal, she has felt light headed and ended the dive early. She does not find her neck seal uncomfortably tight. I was with her when this happened...
In Canada this is now up on up Crave. Just watching it right now. So far, exciting, nicely shot, with more detail than most underwater adventures, e.g., safety stops, dive computer alarms, CO2 toxicity, DSMBs, etc.
The Mama Viña is a very nice wreck dive--a shrimp trawler, sits on the sand at 100 feet. Lots of current the first time, a little current the second time, so its advanced in rec diving terms. . We dove with Dressel out of Toucan and asked to do this wreck twice. Lots of marine life: Moray eel...
Hi,
-7.00 diopters is in the range for "high myopia." People with high myopia are at increased risk for outcomes such as retinal tears and detachments. I'm not an eye doctor, but I've been living with this myself. I played underwater hockey for years, but eventually quit because I got a retinal...
Hi Clint,
Some people prefer that access. I like parking at the Scuba Park, then putting on my gear, soaking it to stay cool, and walking along the canal (about 400m) to the clearing close to the bridge and wading in.
Re the Jack and Diana Lesson for Life:
I seem to recall years ago a ScubaBoarder, who was involved in the discovery of two deceased divers, posting an incident very similar to this one. I can't find the post, but I think that the details in common were:
-male and female, inexperienced divers...
I was out at Innerkip last Sunday. Admission is $10. Visibility was about 5 feet, temp on the bottom 52 F. In addition to the interesting junk, there are also lots of fish, especially on the slope along the east side.
-On about my 10th dive, in a river with current and high boat traffic in 20 feet of water. Got into a feet up ascent and floated to the surface before I knew it. Lucky not to get run over. Learned to use the hip dump. Also, high boat traffic in 20 feet of water was a bad choice for a 10th dive...
