    7' Hose Routing wo/ Canister?

+1 -- I just switched to this configuration myself. I bought the Halcyon Weighted Bellows Pocket (I dive with a Halcyon Infinity BP), and now just tuck the 7' hose under it. Also solved the 'where do I store things' issue; I keep a folding snorkel, wet notes, and a spool in mine by default.

    Regs or BCD first?

Aside from the obvious mask, fins, boots, the first purchase I made once certified was a custom wetsuit. I couldn't find rentals that fit well, and since most of my diving is Southern California, comfort/warmth is a priority. I tried about a half-dozen regs and BCs of various types thanks to...

    AKONA Collapsing Mesh bag

I just bought one of these and think it is the best value in bags I have purchased (~$55 online). Used it on Saturday for a beach dive -- carried 7mm wetsuit, hood, gloves, boots, fins (RK3), towel, mask, spare mask, snorkel, and rescue mask with a bit of room to spare inside. Had dry box and...

    7' Hose Routing wo/ Canister?

+1 -- I use the Halcyon plastic hose stick also. Works great, though I had to add a retainer to my strap so I don't keep losing it when I remove my BC. :)

Sharing Your Current BP/W Gear List

I agree with this — I have been thinking about getting one of the nylon (traveler) backplates for travel/tropical water use, but most of my diving is in SoCal waters and I have been very happy with the weight distribution afforded by the SS backplate.

Long hose slipping out of the webbing while diving / Dive light task loading

I don't dive with a canister light, but do use a BP/W and 7' hose. I tucked for a bit (and had the problem with it coming out of the belt), and then bought the Halcyon hose keeper mentioned above. Works great and haven't had an issue since. Whatever you use, make sure you practice stowing and...

Searching for my first set of gear

Certainly not Norway-cold, but 58-61F is pretty chilly to me. Relative to tropical diving, etc...

Searching for my first set of gear

I am also a new diver, and after a considerable amount of research and input from fellow divers, settled on a Halcyon Infinity BP/W and Shearwater Teric. There are lots of great BP’s out there to choose from. I am delighted with both of those choices. And I agree with runsongas — a weighted STA...

Thank you very much for the pic and explanation.

Pictures of how to mount a transmitter using a short hose ...

I am new to all of this -- can you help me understand what a spool is and why you must use one? I have a Teric with their AI pod.

    New Teric and nitpicking

I have 13 dives with my Teric and absolutely love it. I agree with many of the feature requests made here, but the number one thing that would make my tired eyes happy would be an option to eliminate the field label ("T1") for tank pressure in Big mode, and use the space to display the tank...

Does anyone know if there are any active scuba clubs in the Coachella Valley / Palm Springs area? RwP

    Gear purchases you DON’T regret

I don’t regret anything in my current single-tank diving configuration: Poseidon Cyklon 5000 reg set Shearwater Teric w/AI pod Halcyon Infinity BC Apex RK3 fins Atomic Aquatics Venom mask Wetwear custom 7mm wetsuit with ‘ez-on’ zippers Big Blue AL1200 dive lights

What did Santa bring you for Christmas?

GF bought me an iDive boat jacket. I bought myself some dive patches to accessorize it and a pair of RK3 fins. RwP

    Tech fins?

+1 on this — I also started with Atomic Aquatic Smoke-on-the-water Splitfins. I love them for low-effort flutter kicking as long as there isn’t a strong current. However, wanting to learn proper frog kicking, dealing with stronger currents, and a desire to move into more technical diving led me...

    Interesting BP/W "Ditchable" Weight System

DUI came out with a version III of the Weight and Trim Harness that I use. It did away with the threaded cord in favor of two plastic pull handles. Very easy to ditch and reattach. Also less bulky than the original and the weight pouches (which come in 10lb or 20lb sizes each side) can be...

    Ditchable Weight Option for BP/W

I don’t want to repost copyrighted images, but you can ‘google’ for “DUI Connor Weight & Trim Harness III” and there are many. It is the recently-released update to their previous harness, with big yellow dump handles (and no cumbersome threading of line to reattach). RwP
