Can anyone suggest a computer for returning to altitude after a dive

Would it be feasible to use your computers "plan" option to cross reference your pressure group? (i.e. "plan" a dive to 60', it says you're good for 29min, therefore you're PG "E" on the Navy table, reference that to the altitude table and you can fly your private plane home as long as you stay...

Trying to compensate for feet down trim when wearing no exposure protection and little weight

Probably tried it already, but go inverted. Get any bubbles in the BCD away from your shoulders. That got me from my profile picture to this

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

This seems to be the initial call. It's a different conversation to the one where they are clearly on the other boat, and you hear both sides. At one point he says "I can't breathe" and then they lose contact. It's plausible that this was the initial call from on board the "Conception". Edit to...

Accidental DECO and mild panic in a non tech certified diver.

Possible central nervous system oxygen toxicity seizures among US recreational air or enriched air nitrox open circuit diving fatalities 2004-2013. - PubMed - NCBI This is US only, and fatalities only. I imagine there would be reports of symptoms that did not result in death, and unreported...

    Trip insurance?

Going to Chuuk soon, so I'm also looking into insurance. World Nomads looks good, as long as the level 3 sports doesn't jack up the price too much, but they don't appear to cover insolvency and search and rescue(I'd hate to know how much the US Navy would charge if they had to send out a...

OK, who else enjoys motorcycling when not getting wet?

Haven't ridden either for far too long. Both in need of time and $$. Unfortunately work has been taking care of the former, and diving, the latter.

Total of 12 dives and already a few lessons and one almost "near miss"

I definitely lack the required coordination to perform that intricate maneuver.

Total of 12 dives and already a few lessons and one almost "near miss"

All these things WERE covered in training, which is why we were confused that the DM and the highly experienced bloke DIDNT COMPLY. My issue is in no way with the training or the instructors we had for our OW and AOW. They were awesome and thorough. But, as has already been stated, the training...

Total of 12 dives and already a few lessons and one almost "near miss"

I agree with this, and that's how they sell it. That there'll be this nice easy transition into higher levels of diving. But once you're out in the big world of charters, your experience seems to have little bearing on how you're handled, so you better damned well be competent enough to hire...

Total of 12 dives and already a few lessons and one almost "near miss"

Thanks for the responses, people. Lot of good info in here. Definitely going to upgrade my BCD checks in the future. Some general response before I reply to a few specific posts/comments. This dive has, in NO WAY, reduced my or my buddys desire to dive, it's just reinforced our self relience...

Total of 12 dives and already a few lessons and one almost "near miss"

From reading opinions on here, I plan to get in the habit of not relinquishing my fins until solid on the boat. This is due to concern about getting washed/bumped off the ladder and having to try and swim back in full gear and no fins. One dive in Vanuatu ended in a decent sized swell, and...

Total of 12 dives and already a few lessons and one almost "near miss"

Definitely not once I had it on. I can't remember the exact circumstances, but I would assume I did all the standard procedures on setup, but either didn't allow the BCD to stay inflated long enough before deflating, didn't notice it deflate before I deflated it myself or the tangle happened...

Total of 12 dives and already a few lessons and one almost "near miss"

Posting this for a bit of a whinge on the state of things(training wise) and also I guess if anybody wants to provide feedback on stuff we did wrong that I haven't worked out yet. Background on me and my "Buddy". Got my open water cert in ~2014-15, didn't dive again till Feb last year when I...
