ok - thanks for the note. Judging by your comment and experience and the comment above I'll focus on a simple transom mount unless anybody has a lead on a small towable fish that works and is affordable.

I am still wondering what the best bottom imaging is at the lowest price. Diving freshwater less than 80'. Is there any one machine that really stands out now? Most threads that I see on this forum are very old, there must be some opinions on newer technology with excellent clarity for bottom...

ps - nearly everyone I see is ice diving with an open face mask. Could you guys share your thoughts on ice diving with a full face OTS Guardian? Bad idea?

You just got me thinking a tow behind would get the best imaging? I am not concerned about fish at all. I am looking at simply bottom scanning for dropped and sunk goods. Downsides to tow behinds? I assume the imaging is better because the angle of side scan is increased?
