Robert “Doc” Adelman aka Roatan Man

Sad to see this. I never interacted w/ Doc aka Roatan Man, but I certainly was aware of him as a regular poster. He appears to have led a full life and was well loved throughout. RIP.

    Southern Leyte

Curious how you decided on the dive op. Asking b/c I opted for Sogod Bay scuba resort (or whatever their name is) when I was there far too long ago to remember the year.

Sold! Inon S-2000 Strobe, Strobe Adapter, Cable; Ultralight Tray, Handle, Arm Segments, Clamps; etc.

No longer interested in underwater photography, so I'm looking for a good home for my Inon strobe and accessories. I reckon I used this setup for less than 3 months total and always packed and rinsed carefully. Preference is to sell everything as a package. $500 USD + SH from either Canada or...

3D Printing Experts in the House?

Happy ending today... I contacted UBC Engineering's 3D printing lab shortly after posting here. Their website implies printing services for students and UBC employees, but I applied anyway and stated I was an alumna (which I am) so got a reply within a couple of days. Measurements were...

Octopus Farming - a firm no from me 👎

I saw this story yesterday, too. Ideally, it's getting enough attention now that the plan to farm them and kill them via ice will die a death as painful and stressful as what they're planning on inflicting on creatures likely far more intelligent and engaging than them.

    Hi everyone! Vancouver diving

Welcome to SB! I'm about a 12-min drive from you and I had no idea you existed. (non-local diver ) Your rental prices are extremely reasonable. I had to rent a drysuit years ago to do some dives with a potential AOW instructor and I paid about your price for the suit alone.

3D Printing Experts in the House?

Likely a service as there are affordable options... public libraries and the major uni in town has a student-run printing services that seems quite cheap. My main concern are the files, actually, and the accuracy in measurements.

3D Printing Experts in the House?

Thanks for the replies, all! @James79 , @sprockjohnson , @davehicks The ring fits onto a beech Bodum spice mill. I need a white one to indicate salt. The square tube is needed to hold a place setting together. Vintage item and came missing one of the square tubes. The tube has a bit more...

3D Printing Experts in the House?

I have a pair of metal calipers that I used when I was making jewellery. 'Analogue' though, so I'd need to check the accuracy on something I know to be an exact measurement first.

3D Printing Experts in the House?

What about creating files for them in something like Tinkercad, though? I can find a place to print them w/ no problem, but I need to create the digital files myself, otherwise they'll cost me a fortune. Is the learning curve for basic shapes such as these relatively reasonable? The only...

3D Printing Experts in the House?

Who 3D prints here? I have 2 very simple shapes I need duplicated. The potential cost in my case seems to be more in making the file than in printing, so I'd like to do that myself. It seems Tinkercad may be the way to go in my case. Mac friendly, no software to download... win-win. What's the...

    Mike Fisch has passed on

Sincere condolences to Mike's friends and family. I read with interest his journey over to FL from Germany. I'm sorry his time in cave country wound up being relatively short, but he made his dream happen and it's quality over quantity anyway. RIP.

Wet Wear: Destroyed by fire; Accepting donations via GoFundMe

Earlier this week I read about the fire that has all but destroyed Wet Wear, a family-run business in Florida that makes custom wetsuits. A news article stated that they had to make significant cuts to stay in business during covid--one of them being insurance. A GoFundMe for the business has...

    Info WetWear Service

Very sad to learn of this fire. As per the articles, the fire was made worse due to the nature of burning neoprene, and they had no insurance due to cutting expenses b/c of covid. Last link is for donations to help them get back on their feet...

Things I've learned along the way

I took me a while to pee in the suit... huge psychological block to get over.

Things I've learned along the way

Hah! Marine head... this is why my wetsuits are front zip. ;) So much easier to unzip partially and let a bunch of water flow through and flush out the suit for the remainder of the dive.

Things I've learned along the way

You wear a sports bra while diving? I'd not heard or knowingly seen such a thing. Interesting. I just wear a bikini top and bottoms that may or may not match. I think my favourite matching suit is a kids/teens set from a sporting goods store. Size 14 or 16. Good for the ego. ;P
