    Snorkel: Required or dangerous?

Or a freeflowing regulator? If all went according to plan, on every dive, we would not need octopus, long hose, dive knife or spare anything. I do not have a strong opinion on snorkels, but I have strong opinion on planning for problems, even if they are in breach of standards.

    Reverse dive profile advice

I would not be very worried about going to 75 on the second dive, but you need to calculate your avilable time to NDL

    Reverse dive profile advice

Taking a longer safety stop is OK, but planning so that you need a longer stop is deco-planning. That is a game changer, and opens up a lot of new things to consider. When you can no longer go straight to surface you need detailed contingency planning.

    Got certified, now what?

Buy twice! (No, I am not joking) There is now way you can detail the perfect package for you up front, so do not burn all your time and money trying to get it perfect. Look at rental gear, and used gear prices, and do a simple cost/benefit-analysis. Buy whatever i economical to buy. Rent the...

    Salt - impact on weights?

Assuming the diver was weighed to neutral, body volume is proportional to body weight, and we do not need to include volume in the calculation. 4 kg added weight is correct if going from fresh water to the read sea, with at total weight of 100 kg and a salinity of 4% (by weight). Red Sea -...

    Salt - impact on weights?

Ahh.. Now i get it, I think... Your math is correct, @stepfen but you calculate a percent increase of added weignt (lead). The 1 % or 3.5 % is a persentage of the total weight. I am pretty sure @victorzamora means 3,5 % of total weight (3,5 kg if diver is 100kg), and that this will have to be...

    Salt - impact on weights?

I am afraid your math is way off. Everything is more bouyant. Not just the lead. You need to add 1% (or 3.5% if comparing to fresh water) to the total weight of the diver including gear and weights. If I am a litle over 100 kg fully equipped 3.5% is pretty close to 4 kg. If the 4 kg increase...

Scubapro DIN conversion kits: 200 vs 300

I do not know if you are ignorant or just trolling, but comparred to the medetereanian, diving the west coast of norway is fantastic. Unfortunately I have no dive equipment with me on christmas holliday, but looking out at crystal clear water with kelp forrest and lots of fish, I would not...

Davinci Resolve for Underwater Videographers - Free YouTube Series

Thanks. Nice tutorial. I think I just put both downloading Davinci Resolve and visiting your resort in the Philippines on my to-do-list.

Cressi Leonardo - MOD vs PO2 discrepancy

Just a thought, haven't done the calculations, but: EAN28 has a PO2 of 1.4 at 5 bars. That, I guess, is undisputed. But what depth 5 bars compares to is a sum of air pressure and density of water (depends on gravity as well, but let us assue that to be constant and keep that out of it.) If the...

Trip Report Trip report in the Galapagos with Aquarius liveboard

Did a similar trip in 2007 with the trimaran Lammer Law. I highly recommend it. Rediculously expensive, but still worth it. Galapagos July 2007

    Din vs Yoke

As a dry suite diver (and an engineer who is used to calculating stuff) I must say I agree with Storker. Going to tropical waters for the first time there is at least two unknowns that make the equation less accurate than the guides guesstimate. The bouyancy characteristics of the suite and the...

    Brain-freeze Headache in Cold Water

The face is normally very robust, but your forehead is not. Make sure to select a hood that does not leave a gap between the hood and the mask. For really cold water finding the right hood is almost more important than the rest of the thermal protection. Brand recommendations from fellow divers...

How much air does an LP85 hold at 2400 PSI?

Yes that is correct. There is probably a long list of pros and cons of alu vs steel, but there is definately a shift towards steel with lower water temperature. In warm water you may be neutral or even negative without the tank. A negative tank will be unpractical and potentially dangerous. It...

    Din vs Yoke

A 300 bar fill whip have no threads close to the tip, so it will not connect to a 232 bar valve. DIN is very close to idiot proof. Another advantage with DIN is that the O-ring is on the regulator. That means that on a dive trip I am responsible for the O-ring rather than the tank owner...
