    Mini Diving Air Tanks

Has anyone ever used any of those mini diving air tanks, like the "Mini SMACO" or that famous one from Kickstarter the "SCORKL"? Are they just glorified pony bottles? I was thinking on getting one but had one main question. How deep can you free dive before you should take the first breath...

    Sinking Boat = big problem

I had the chance to call for help before I went in the water - when I got back to the boat from fishing I realized it was sinking, but was still able to get in. I thought I could balance it and paddle to the island, but that didn't work out. Glad to hear they don't charge you for coming out...

    Sinking Boat = big problem

The next hour was just trying to swim to that island with all the stuff, then the camera quit. I did eventually get the Kayak turned over. I was about to abandon the Kayak, but gave it one more try and a bunch of water must have gotten because it was a lot easier. When I got back to shore, I...

    Sinking Boat = big problem

Ran into some trouble this weekend. Video starts off with me on the kayak after I got back from doing some diving without the tank and realized I was sinking. I thought about calling for help, but decided to try and make it to a nearby island. A wave ended up knocking me off, and knew I was...

new diver - first dive problems

Thanks again to all the great tips and advice - looking forward to being a better diver! This is a great site and resource for sure. I did notice as I navigated the site you can see what others posted on other topics, and it was funny to me that many of the negative commenters are literally...

I think they were using nitrox tanks from a very split second frame I saw on the boat which I assume means they go deep and use to decrease risk of the bends.

Thanks for sharing the videos! I noticed the guy in the second video is definitely holding his breath. One thing they taught in the class is if you hold your breath while scuba diving you WILL die for sure. But that was another thing I thought they taught that wasn't totally true. I bet you...

new diver - first dive problems

One of the first things I asked the instructor is if you should take a pony bottle with you. She said it's a "cop-out". It does seem un-necessary unless you're going to 120' or more.

Yes, of course I've done that. I remember in the PADI course they said to not touch the coral and I get it if you're touching it for no reason. But if you're using it as a hunting advantage to attract large fish, then it's different I think. It's not illegal and is a spearfishing method, so...

new diver - first dive problems

Thanks for the tip - went out today again and really got the hang of it. However, I don't see why to not touch the coral? When spearing, you go down and grab on to something or go in a hole. A great spero once told me the best technique is to dive down, put your d**k in a hole and don't...

new diver - first dive problems

Went down today, this time an easy dive around 30 feet. Made a little video. Disappointed with no fish (didn't bring a spoon) but had fun and got some good video. Also, at least I didn't almost die this dive.

My instructor was a hippy girl who was great. You're probably right, just linearly better that many instead of exponential is more accurate at this point.

I'm not sure what you're looking at, but the anchor point was stuck in that brown piece of coral shown in the pic. Maybe I could have got it with more effort - but after a few tries I just went down.

new diver - first dive problems

I've dove up to around 80' to fish, so going to 100' seemed like no big deal - and well under the 130' limit suggestion for open water certifications. Actually, I never knew exactly how deep I was since I never had a depth gauge before. Probably will stick to 30'-40' dives for awhile now with...

new diver - first dive problems

Definitely have. And just let me qualify that last post with "greater feats.....within my current limits of training, experience & equipment". Actually, I have an interesting idea for my next dive I'm looking forward to - it will be much shallower for sure. But honestly, after reading a lot...

The GoPro has a setting where it just takes pics over and over at certain intervals so I wasn't punching the button on every shot. So yes, I took at least a thousand pics and filled up the memory card. Actually, I wanted to do a video but hit the button a couple times by accident and did the...

Forgot to hook up inflator - near miss

I just had my first dive last weekend after my cert and got ripped to shreds for obvious dive mistakes for vet divers. But deciding to dive after a known leak....maybe that's normal for all the experts here - but I just wouldn't do it. But, I'm a noob. Just seems like if you're leaking air...

It sure was - I just had to find and post them. No one was believing my story! I did get a lot of great info, though, especially the dive planning doc.

It's a Hero 5 I wear on my mask - had it a couple years now. I've been diving off the yak for about 3 years, but this was my first Scuba dive off it since I just bought the equipment and got certified a week and half ago.
