Is the Mares Bolt SLS a good BCD? Does Mares make good BCDs in general?

Been diving my mares bolt for 3 years, primarily cold water in 5mm drysuit, have done several warm water trips. It’s been a great BCD to start off with, zero issues with it and has held up great. I do wish it had a crotch strap, and will be moving to a BP/W setup so I can have something less...

Missing diver at Mukilteo lighthouse Park

For sure. I’ve also had a few “exciting” dives at the tdock with strong currents and terrible viz - and dives off lighthouse that we’ve cancelled predive as the conditions looked awful.

Missing diver at Mukilteo lighthouse Park

I’d agree that the t-dock/geodome dive is pretty straightforwards but going out from lighthouse park seems like going out to the clay walls and there can be a lot more current there vs where the tdock is. Latest news update I saw said the search would not be resumed in the morning. Sad...

combine Raja Ampat with land based location?

We were there 5/26 to 6/4 - last few days there was a lot of muck on the surface in some spots, but didn't seem crazy to me?

combine Raja Ampat with land based location?

We just got back from staying at Misool and had a wonderful time - already booked to return in 2025. I don't think they'd have availability for when you're looking for as they are booked up until 2025, but you could reach out to them about a cancellation list.

Travel Logistics: Jakarta and Sorong in October

We did as outofofficebrb did, with booking our initial tickets from home to Jakarta to start, then booking Jakarta to Sorong afterwards, with getting to Jakarta a day or so earlier so you can catch your Sorong with time to spare for your boat transfer/pickup. We were initially booked on Lion Air...

    Girl Scout saves panicked diver

There were actually several issues with that event - the ankle weights were not the start of the problem. 1) The drysuit was borrowed from someone else, and was oversized to the diver 2) The diver seems to have not fastened the crotch strap, so the drysuit was even bigger with the telescoping...

Another obstacle in the quest for certification

Another thing that helps me is starting some equalizing/Eustachian tube opening maneuvers about an hour prior to a dive. Hope the ENT will have some helpful advice for you!

Question What do you think of the Teric as a dive computer AND wearing it as a watch?

Too big for daily wear for me - I'm 5'3''. Usually only to/from/during diving, but I've never been a watch wearer.

    Student lost - Seattle, Washington

As public forums seem to bring out both sincere folks who are interested in ongoing education/risk management as well as folks who are more inclined to blame/shame and grab pitchforks, the next of kin may not wish to have their loved one's story dissected and analyzed publicly, especially if...

    Any tips for sea sickness?

Yep. My combo is dramamine night before and morning of, scopolamine patch, sea bands, bland carby breakfast, ginger chews, minimize surface time, and when all that fails... boot n' rally. Can't read or look at screens, being an "active" rider and paying attention to how the boat is moving helps...

    Student lost - Seattle, Washington

Like others have said, the Honeybear is a basically just a shallow hull. You would have to go out of your way to get stuck on it. Cove 2 is also a super calm dive site in general. Viz has been better than normal lately. It's not been bad at Cove 2 but it's super easy to silt up, and there are...

Teric owners, have you required repair or replacement service?

Sent in mine - wouldn't read AI transmitter. Repair found antenna wire loose. Fixed and sent back within a week. Had to send in husband's about two weeks later - his kept resetting. Loose connection. Fixed and sent back within a week. No issues since, both have around 60 dives on them.

    Shearwater Teric AI bug

Interesting! I just sent my Teric in as it wouldn't read either transmitter we have - husband's could read both, and we have ours set up that "our" transmitter is set up for T1 in our Teric and the other transmitter is set up as T2. I originally thought it was a battery issue with the...

How many dives did you manage in 2019 - Recap

2019 was the start of our diving adventures! Picked up certs (OW, AOW, drysuit), lots of gear and some of an idea :) Enjoyed the chilly PNW waters and our October trip to Maui. Looking forward to Bonaire in February, doing more training and spending more time underwater this year. Adam and I...

Scuba Noobs in the PNW :)

Thank you all for the warm welcome :) Hubs and I have actually done all our certs and dives together with the exception of the last two - he busted his ankle in the middle of our trip and won't be splashing for a while. Will check out nwdiveclub.com :)

Scuba Noobs in the PNW :)

Thanks! Not yet! Did Z's reef and Sunrise with Bandito earlier in the month but otherwise have just been mucking around WS Coves 1 & 2 and Redondo so far - and on weekends so everything is nicely kicked up by the newest batch of OW students! I am happy we have so much to explore around here!
