    TSandM -- Lynne Flaherty

Like many others, I had drifted away from the board for a few years, and I am absolutely stunned by this loss. Lynne and I were both eager newer divers at the same time, and it was always nice to learn more via discussions she was involved in. I can't think of any loss to impact the board like...

Prefer MIA or FLL to go to Key Largo?

Another diver firmly in the FLL and Conch Republic camp. Flew in to MIA twice and said never again. Airport itself was nuts, and while offsite rental cars might not seem like a big deal, it becomes one when you are suddenly running late due to Florida traffic and construction detours have you...

Too cold for a 3 mil in fort lauderdale

I found bottom temps in Key Largo last weekend around 75-77. Was too cold for my 3/2, doing repetitive hour-long dives. I was fine after i added a 3mil farmer john

    Blue Heron Bridge Questions

I can't emphasize enough that you want to make that dive a priority. Its amazing how much there is to see there, and I strongly recommend the night dive. The only problem with the night dive might be the logistics of renting gear. If you don't have much wiggle room in your schedule returning...

    Punta Cana - Diving

We went the end of October '05 and stayed at the Iberostar Bavaro. From the beach you could see the wreck of a freighter, the Astron, which is the dive I did. The dive op was attached to the resort, I no longer remember the name. The wreck was in shallow water, around 45' with vis in the 60'...

Just a post to get rid of that annoying "...you have not posted..."

Damn good idea. Wonder how long it will keep the notice at bay

7mil in 70+ degree water? Is my instructor right?

I'm not aware of any quarry near Cols that has a depth of 35'. I don't know if they have access to a private quarry or if you are travelling to one of the bigger ones in nw OH. If it's Twin Quarries then the max depth is ~20' and the temps should be at least in the low 70s as mentioned above...

How many charters got blown out last week?

After having two kids I finally got to come South again for my first ocean dives in three years. It was my whole gang, plus brother and his family, so we rented a house in LBTS. To set the stage, it was repeatedly explained that unlike previous trips I wouldn't be spending all my time diving...

Local big box store sold out of their scuba stuff...

I am quite certain that if you empty x cf of gas from a cylinder, whether it's made of aluminum, steel, lead, or styrofoam, your overall buoyancy, or lack thereof, has changed by the same amount

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, DIY housings are an option. If you have the notion and moderate capabilities check out the Do it Yourself section on SB. Expand the post dates to the last year and you will find all sorts of information. I helped my brother make one - total time was probably...

Apollo Bio-Fin Pro/ Tusa Xpert Zoom ---- Size and weight ?

My l-xl zooms measure 24 1/2" long and weigh 4lb 1 oz for the pair. I've never had a problem packing in a large suitcase but be aware that they won't lay flat - blade is at an angle compared to foot pocket

    400m swim for DM

I occasionally forget that this diving thing is a global sport, oops, activity, and that swimming in local lakes, quarries etc.. during warm weather isn't exactly feasible everywhere.

    400m swim for DM

My point was more about the fact that some people are right at the edge of their comfort zone only w/ all their gear on. BTW, I agree that the measured swim should be done in open water. There are open water check out dives for DM cert, aren't there?

    400m swim for DM

I have finally forced myself to get past this environment of divers not really needing to be good swimmers. I still do find it comical how many divers would probably have a panic attack if faced with being in the water with no fins, gear etc... As for DMs and above, I don't think 400 yds is...

    400m swim for DM

Allow me to preface this with the fact that I am not a DM/ DM candidate nor do I want to be. I can't imagine an instructor failing someone for using flip-turns. Usually there is an inherent swimming ability/ technique found in those that chose to use flip turns (it takes a while to learn how to...

Didn't know what I was missing

Answered my own question while playing around. For anyone w/o animated imoticons go to the advanced tab in internet options, then under multimedia check the "play animations in web pages" box

Didn't know what I was missing

I'm sure a lot of SB'ers have the correct settings/browser options so hopefully you can get me back to the promised land. While I was out of town for the holiday I used my father-in-law's computer to try and end the boredom and logged on to SB - to my surprise many of the imoticons were...

What do you do when nobody can go diving with you?

I did 4 Keys trips in the last year :D and have yet to go down there with a buddy(non-diving wife). Haven't had any problems getting paired up so far - sometimes they'll send you with someone from the shop, or they may pair you up with a single diver or other small group. This time of year the...
