    Mod 3 readiness

Hi, I am curious to know the more experienced members thoughts on what they think should be nailed to a tee before starting a CCR hypoxic/mod 3 course. I completed my mod 2 last year, and already have more than the requisite number of hours/deco dives to be able to enroll in the mod 3 course...

    To Nerd (or not)

Hello all, Looking for some feedback from people who have used the NERD on their rebreathers for some time. Thinking of getting one but it’s quite the investment so (candid) reviews would be much appreciated. Thanks all.

    Helium Billing

They are, and apparently other shops are doing it as well (see post above re cave country). Just not sure I understand the fairness of it, especially if they have a booster.

    Helium Billing

Pretty sure the shop will be reselling the helium to another customer.

    Helium Billing

Hi, Is it normal on a rebreather dive for a dive center to bill you for the entire fill of diluent/bailout helium even if you only end up using 10-20 percent of it (or in the case of bailout, none of it). If yes, wouldn’t they be banking that helium somewhere and re-selling again for another...

DIR- GUE New GUE Project Diver (Level 3) Program

Thoughts on this new pilot program? Will it take off? https://www.gue.com/PDL3-announcement The prerequisites for the apprentice project are insane: CCR 2, 1000 dives, Gas Blender, among other things.

    Finances and Tec Diving

My helium bills are gargantuan. An average hypoxic trimix dive costs somewhere between 300 to 400 dollars (including guide fees).

    Finances and Tec Diving

Just curious: How do you balance your finances with as costly a hobby as tec diving? Do you set up a yearly “diving budget” and try to stick to it? Or do you go with the flow and sign up for trips, courses, etc. so long as your credit card limit would allow it? Obviously the first option...

    Drysuit Squeeze/DCS

How much drysuit squeeze does one allow before it impeding blood circulation/perfusion? Does diving with more squeeze theoretically increase DCS risk? I can tolerate quite some squeeze only adding gas if I feel it is starting to impact on my chest movement/breathing. I don’t like to have a big...

Cave Training - No Nearby Caves

Nearest option (4 hour flight) are caves in France/Spain, so would be about same for mine diving in Europe :)

Cave Training - No Nearby Caves

Hello, So I have worked my way through open water tec training, and am now considering cave courses. Those photos are just so damn gorgeous and I also would like to enlarge my skillset. I can certainly travel for my cave course(s), but…the nearest cave diving location is at least a 4 hour...

    DIR- GUE GUE CCR Progression

Thanks. Does CCR 2 work on the same concept - 75 meters (cert limit) to 100 meters (after 25 dives)? I cannot imagine that CCR 2, that mythically difficult course, would limit you more than a typical mod 3 course…

    DIR- GUE GUE CCR Progression

So I noticed something interesting: GUE CCR 1 certifies you to a maximum depth of 100ft/30 meters. CCR 2 lists only CCR 1 as a prerequisite plus a minimum of 50 rebreather dives beyond CCR 1 certification, of which 25 must be deeper than 30 meters. How does that make sense? Surely they cannot...

Ex-chief of Ukraine intelligence dead - Egypt

From Egyptian media (translated with google translate with minor edits for clarity): The Public Prosecution is investigating the death of a Ukrainian citizen in Dahab, South Sinai. A statement by the Public Prosecution said that it had received a notification from the "Dahab Central Hospital"...

    Changing Regulator Mouthpiece

Hi all, My regulator's (Apeks XTX50) mouthpiece is amply stressing my jaws. My teeth also turn quite sore after longish dives. I have a wide mouth and feel that the existing mouthpiece is simply too small. Any suggestions for a replacement mouthpiece that (a) is compatible with the Apeks XTX50...

Realistic tec diving goals for a non-professional diver

I honestly can say that I am a more disciplined, “tougher”, and all around better person thanks to diving generally, and tec diving particularly. It gave me a cooler and more rational head when dealing with the inevitable #@&% that life throws. For me, challenge and skill mastery have little to...

Realistic tec diving goals for a non-professional diver

I am writing to see if anyone on board here has been in a similar place or, as an instructor, can shed some light using their experience and what they saw from their students/customers. Specifically, I dive for about one weekend every month with the occasional longer trip/course every now and...

    Swimsuit under Wetsuit

A variant question of the original post: it now seems that unless I go commando under the wetsuit, the boys get squished up (disappear in groin) upon pulling up my wetsuit and remain that way throughout the dive and for a period thereafter. It is not painful but is uncomfortable. And I do not...
