I have the "Diving and Subaquatic Medicine", I have my eyes on Bennet and Elliott's Physiology and Medicine!
I will check the membership plus the journals. As for a fellowship I don't know yet... I'm just a med student yet:)
Hyperbaric medicine and anesthesiology are areas of interest to me( so...
Very interesting! Yes, I had a chance to read about psychological bias, in the science world I think the confirmation bias is the most "common". This would be more like an informal side project more like a curiosity about my own body and limitations of diving profiles.
I really like the...
The spectrum analyser would be the best option. I was researching a decent phone app that I could do that in real time just after the dive...
Thanks for the help!
Thanks for all the help!
I guess I'll try to find a 5MHz device or just buy a imaging device( not in the near future though$$$$):)
The devices you said(Techno Scientific DBM9008 and DBM9610 ) are kind of expensive right?
Which diving medicine book do you recommend most? I'm a fast learner and I...
Yes it has more shallow tissue penetration, do you think I could reach the ventricles with that frequency?
between med school and the pandemic I guess I'm going to have to wait to form a team.
Hello! Yes I did some searching in medical databases about the use of doppler technology since the 70's, with the grading systems that are greatly dependent of operator experience. More current research uses at least 2D echocardiography with Doppler.
I was wondering if "simple" available devices...
Nice to know! I saw an 10MHz model, do you think it will do it?
Do you know any software that can provide a "visual" spectral of sound recorded or do I have to "train my ears" to grade the bubbles?
Thanks!
I saw it just before I created this post, from what I read it is exactly like a (fancy) vascular doppler. The downside is having to pay for "analysis" after buying the product... I would like to have more autonomy in processing the data if I decide in the future to publish an article or...
Hello, I'm a med student with a lot of interest in diving medicine.
I was wondering if anyone ( Maybe Dr. Deco) has experience in detecting venous bubbles with ultrasound systems?
Can I use a vascular ( no image, just sound) ultrasound to detect bubbles after a dive? I don't really have the...
Nice! in the book "Scuba Physiological" I read about the effects of a pre-dive run in the last 24h for preventing DCS. Besides hydration the others are fairly new to me. Thanks :)
Yes, you are correct, I inquired about the "Pyle stop", while I'm well within NDL for that depth(even more "ongassing" would still be OK because of the NDL being respected. I read it somewhere that Dr. Pyle started to do it because he realised that it significantly diminished fatigue.
As to the...
The study is about "Pyle stops" correct? This is the first one with a positive/conclusive outcome! A lot were inconclusive or borderline statistically significant... If you have any others I would appreciate it :)
Thanks! NAUI recommends no more than 9m( ~30ft) per minute, while PADI recommends a maximum of 18m( ~60ft) per minute. I think I am going to follow NAUI's rule, even tough being a PADI certified diver... Never can add too much conservadorism in the diving world :)
Wow, thanks for all the responses! I'm referencing NOAA's Diving Manual, 4th edition. Its a bit old, but I can't afford the newer edition right now. I have the "Deco for Divers" book.
I just watched a DAN lecture about the bubble model vs gas loading models( ). He cites my question, but the...
When I took PADI's OWD course. The instructor told us the basic profile for recreational dives with the safety stop, ascent rate and everything else...
I was reading NOAA's Diving manual, which recommends to do a stop at half the max depth of the dive for 2.5 minutes, plus the safety stop at 15...
