What Are Your "Pro-Tips" for Safety, Redundancy, and Accident Handling

I follow two procedures that are common in aviation: 1. Never try more than one new item (If have to try/change something new of some significance) in the same dive. For example, if I have to start using a new DPV and a drysuit, I will go with one of the two first, and then would add the second...

    Choosing a Basic Wrist Computer

Could not agree more. In addition it has double deco algorithm , so it is user choice to select the one that better fits his diving profile .

Question Classic Kiss change to have tank valves up

Hello, I am considering changing my Classic Kiss configuration in order to have the tanks with the valve on top, Reason behind is that for having a good WOB, the shoulder harness in my BP are intentionally kept very short, so the CCR is rather high on my back. So the problem that I currently...

    Question Change sorb between dives

I would change the sorb and then would do the whole checklist again. Theoretically should suffice with the P+/P- but doing the rest will take one minute more, so why not?

Considering a HUD from Fathom for Classic Kiss

Hello, my CK is fitted with a Predator and a legacy Shearwater HUD, both hardwired. The case is that lately the HUD was behaving erraticaly and finally the LED in the middle is no longer working, and the other two LEDs look like are about to die soon. So I am looking for a new HUD to replace...

Where is the best solo shore diving on the planet?

I have been doing solo diving in Tarifa (Spain) for about 20 years. Water is 15 centigrades +/- 2 degrees depending on the season, lots of sealife, wrecks, archeological sites, wonderful reefs. Just need to be cautious with the currents and the wind , it is a high wind, high currents area. Used...

    Perdix AI Battery Drain Issue

Had the same issue some years ago in my SW Predator and sent it to repair. The cause was a faulty depth sensor , which appears to be a recurrent issue on SW computers. Despite it was out of warranty, SW assumed the cost of replacing the faulty sensor., looks like this was treated as a latent defect.

mk2evo/r195 for deep dive pony tank

I am a rebreather diver, and have been using MK2+R190s for my bailout tanks for many years. Meanwhile fortunately I had never to bailout, in some ocassions I tested my bailout tanks at 60-70 meters deep, and they work wonderfully, however it must be noticed that the tanks were full charged at...

Unexplained high Carbon Monoxide levels in Kea diver deaths

Just a thought....in a rebreather, carbon monoxide would react with the lime in the scrubber producing calcium formate, wich has a stinging taste at mouth and can produce gastrointestinal injuries. Guess that the effect of CO bounding to hemoglobine would happen first, but not sure.

    Shearwater Low Battery Issue

If the battery & cap replacement does not solve the problem, next suspect would be pressure sensor: if it is malfunctioning, it will be drawing a lot of current.

Question Why backplates are found in a wide variety of prices?

I use an Halcyon bp and a bp bought in Leisurepro for less than 100 $ and cannot tell the difference, except that the Halcyon is aesthetically more pleasant .

Weight of rebreathers -- Ready to dive?

Classic Kiss with ss bp and 2L steel tanks is 25 kg/55 pounds. Aside of that, it has negative buoyancy so I need little lead to sink: none on a 7 mm wetsuit and 4 kg when on a 3 mm neoprene wetsuit.
