Worth still doing Peak Performance Buoyancy after AOW?

Hooley dooley this took off. Well, I'm in Australia, where there is very little GUE and none in my state :)

Worth still doing Peak Performance Buoyancy after AOW?

G'day all! I'm only about 45 dives in, and completed my PADI AOW last year. For one of the modules I did the Peak Performance buoyancy....but honesty, I got very little out of this. The trainer wasn't....great......and the entire AOW course was really rushed as they didn't manage dive times...

    Lesson “confirmed” on certification dive

Sounds like both you and your buddy did well. As you reflected, there was a better option - but you kept your head and found an option that got you out of the water safely. I remember coming out of the water on my last dive for certification to see my mouthpiece hanging on by a tiny piece of...

    Short and Fat

Waterproof have a number of sizes within each 'size'.....half a dozen medium variations or so, for instance. So they may be suitable - they have a table which states the various measurements of each size, so you get yourself measured and compare.

BPW for someone with chronic back pain

A rear-inflating BCD is another option (I know that goes against the church of the BP/W on here....though it looks to me like most responses have completely missed what your issue is); it isn't restrictive like a jacket (though not quite as 'free' as a BP/W, it is much more comfortable than a...

Liveaboard vs Dive Resort for newbie divers?

This comes down to knowing whats provided. I'm doing GBR in October (fingers crossed), and they made it clear that some dives are unguided. I've been on 1 liveaboard so far and would have no problem recommending them to newbies. Every question you have applies equally to a dive resort...

Liveaboard vs Dive Resort for newbie divers?

I'm 40ish dives in, have done liveaboards and dive resorts - so was probably about 20 dives in on my first liveaboard - in the South Pacific. My liveaboard was, admittedly, in an area that was best suited to somebody with more experience, but oh well. I didn't think there was anything...

    Back inflate BC

rear inflating BCD also has this.

    Back inflate BC

Exactly - and I mentioned plenty of people are happy with theirs. Different fits and preference. My intention wasn't to steer OP away from buying the dimension, but just highlighting the risk of buying without trying it on. a 3 hour round trip is absolutely worth it to get the right gear -...

    Back inflate BC

Personally I don't understand how people can buy a BC without trying it on. It's an expensive purchase - the 1.5 hours each way is absolutely worth it. I made several trips to an area about an hour away researching my purchase. I found I absolutely, strongly hated the feel of all the...

    Help with all-rounder fin choice

Thanks - it's a good video. I did actually find this one when I was doing my research. It's really well done and quite interesting.

    Help with all-rounder fin choice

Until Easter, my last dive was Komodo National Park, Indonesia - Christmas 2019. Nothing during lockdown. We have 2 liveaboards booked in GBR in October, fingers crossed

    Help with all-rounder fin choice

Most of my diving has been in the South Pacific. Only had my first Melbourne dive over Easter :D

    Help with all-rounder fin choice

I don't plan on doing penetration diving so it should be okay...but sometimes I still wish for something smaller anyway. Why do you use different fins for warm water?

    Help with all-rounder fin choice

Deep 6 aren't available in Australia - and shipping would cost as much as the fins

    Help with all-rounder fin choice

Thanks for that. Got my 2 AOW boat dives on tomorrow :D So I'm guessing that with the buoyancy, the only real way to resolve that is try moving small amounts of weight from my tank trim to my weight pockets?

    Help with all-rounder fin choice

Ended up with the Excite. Had 7 dives (3 of them being part of my AOW), happy with them so far, Had some mild current but haven't been able to really test them yet. They don't seem to handle a back kick as well as my full foot Tusa Solla, but only tried once or twice, might take a little bit...

Scubapro Hydros - does it handle enough weight?

In all honest, I'm not going to expect every single overworked, underpaid staff member on an Indonesian liveaboard to lift it from the handle :) And I figure that if lifting by the straps is an issue, then so is walking long distances wearing it. Having said that, now that they've improved...

Cressi Commander, Oceanic Excursion, Scubapro Hydros Pro?

Excursion. I was able to try it and the Commander and there were some very minor differences between the two that pointed me towards the excursion - mainly the dump valve placement. There were some features of it I preferred over the Hydros, and a couple of other considerations as well...
