British nurse lost on dive - Red Sea

We were there on the 21st Nov. (i think a day later). The picture below is from our briefing that day. Did 2 beautiful dives (with low to low-moderate current). However, we explicitly warned that under no circumstance should we cross the corals (at -7.5m) on the left (east) side, otherwise there...

Dahab and Marsa Alam, Egypt -Scuba operator recommendations

also off-topic: Was positively surprised how well managed the dive center was (with this many divers per day). Probably the last spot on earth which qualifies for the term "German Efficiency". :)

Dahab and Marsa Alam, Egypt -Scuba operator recommendations

For Dahab, there are plenty of good choices. In 2020 i wanted (twice!!) to travel to Dahab (which in both cases did not happen). I planned to go to the Extra-Divers base within the Swiss Inn Resort. The Resort and Dive-Center are currently open (some dive centers and hotels are still closed)...

Greetings from NY! Advice for Hurghada Dive Shop?

My personal favorite in Hurghada is the James & Mac Diving Center. They do half-day and full-day boat trips. Even Mini-Safaris (2-day and 3-day) are available. Great people, i always love coming back (hopefully next spring). Giftun Azur Resort is the attached Hotel, not a "burner", but we do...

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

This is a highly recommended advice!! We did a 1-week river tour (Edfu, Philae, Abu-Simbel, Kom Ombo, Esna, Karnak, Hatshepsut, Valley of the Kings) in Spring 2011, shortly after the revolution and it was fantastic. Attached a picture from our visit of the (empty) Temple of Hatshepsut

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

Today i was supposed to board in Hurghada, but it was cancelled 2 weeks ago. *sigh* Now i'll start tomorrow a week long offshore sailing voyage in the Baltic Sea (towards Sweden). *Yay, nice* My rebooked (from early June) travel to Dahab in October was cancelled by TUI. *double sigh* It is more...

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

^ Agree. More troublesome is the travel warning and its related uncertainties to travel companies. Because of this my week in Dahab (End Sep/Early Oct) was cancelled by TUI.

Is anyone planning to go on a Red Sea liveaboard in the Aug-Oct 2020 timeframe

^ This. Additionally for Germany: If you travel to a risk country and fall ill, in this case, compensation under the Protection against Infection Act and the entitlement under the Continued Payment of Remuneration Act (Entgeltfortzahlungsgesetz) will not apply.

Is anyone planning to go on a Red Sea liveaboard in the Aug-Oct 2020 timeframe

Hopefully there will be some valuable information in the next few weeks. We have a full charter scheduled for 03.September. So far there are 2 obstacles: (German) Travel warning for Egypt (which hopefully expires 31. August) Entering the next phase, since 50% capacity is not sustainable...

    Kreidesee quarry

Never been there, since it is in the northern part of Germany and i am located in the most southern part. But i know several guys who dive there in Hemmoor quite regularly. Never heard a bad word.

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

@P-Dog That sounds way better. With more predicable travel next spring, I think less travel stress, uncertainties and frustration will lead to a much more enjoyable scuba experience. @JustSurfaceInterval Man... I was planning for Orca Soma Bay next year and thought to use my Sheraton points...

Is anyone planning to go on a Red Sea liveaboard in the Aug-Oct 2020 timeframe

I am scheduled for an early September North Tour (not sure if it will take place). I read the news that the Extra-Divers "MY Red Sea Explorer" has confirmed tours on 13.August (South Tour), 20.August and 03. September (from their FB page).

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

Lets see what happens. I am scheduled for a liveaboard North Tour early September and then a week in Dahab early October (it was rescheduled from end of may). Contingency plan: If the North Tour is cancelled, I'll spent a week diving with James&Mac, staying at the Giftun Hotel and eating Camel...

    Cheers!

Greeting to all! Being a former Navy guy i like(d) offshore/oceanic sailing more than diving (never interested me in the past). Now, the gentle reader might ask, if this is true then how on earth you ended up a scuba diver? Well, it began 3 years ago: Two of my best friends (both avid scuba...
