    Definition of Open Water certification

It's still not "open water". It's a "confined" space no matter how big it is. As a certified diver I would never go to such a facility, I prefer to dive in the "real" ocean. But, something like this I think might appeal to the non diving community as a way of experiencing what it "might" be like...

Would you dive alone in a recovery situation? (not for you solo divers)

Someone with your limited experience shouldn't even think about it. :no Take a buddy with you, it will be more fun and you can split the money.

    Planning Time! - California M&G - Sept 5-7

Don't forget about the Monterey Express and the Silver Prince for those of you who don't like shore diving. Ann Marie has the Silver Prince set up to do a 3 Tank Morning Dive on Sat Sep 6. She got a really good deal on this so contact her to see if she has any spots available. Also Capt...

    Fear of deep water

This is extremely important CeeTee to avoid serious injury to you and anyone else. Don't be embarrased to tell them. Your instructors should know from the very begining so they can help you work thru it.

    Trim Help

If you're finning all the time then I can see why you would need a 130cf tank. You'll suck up alot of air constantly finning. Try down sizing your tank and "then" add trim weights to compensate for the weight difference. Also what TSandM said is very important. If your tank and/or BC is...

Whistle noise from ears? I'm blowing too hard?

Same with me. I hear a high pitched sound and then feel the presure release from my ears. Ladyvalea, You might also want to try warming your ears up before hand. That just entails clearing your ears a few times topside before you hit the water.

    Dive Key West

That's the one, thanks! Did you see any fish when you dove it? The crew told me that the fish stay back out of site when divers come and return when they leave. Don't know for sure if they were yanking my chain or not.

    Dive Key West

I've also used Southpoint Divers, I dove with them for 2 days and stayed at the Southernmost Hotel. It's close to, and within walking distance to everything. The best dive site in Key West in my opinion is "9 Foot Pole Reef". It's in about 30-35 fsw and loaded with life. Just take your time and...

Just got certified in Maui now have a few ?'s about Oahu and Air Consumption

You're definitely wrong about the gloves, more gear isn't what's needed here. Just grasp your hands together in front of you like you see DM's and other experienced divers doing. :no Don't even think about bringing a camera into the equasion for right now. As far as air consumption, that...

Lessons to be learned-Death in Palau

Hey DOC, I hope you don't mean they're all diseased. :D I second that on putting a lock on threads that have not had a reply after a certain length of time.

    I am disappointed in myself...

I dive with a 7mm suit and can hover at the SS with no air in my BC and 500psi in my tank. I am able to make a slow "controlled" ascent to the surface after the SS with no problem. Never ever, have I not been in control. The neoprene factor does not come into play here gentleman, if the...

    I am disappointed in myself...

I would like to add something on top of what everyone else has said. If you were fighting that hard to stay afloat on the surface at the end of your dive then it sounds like you were seriously overweighted. You should be able to hover at 15ft during the safety stop with no air in your BC and...

I am having a problem finding people.....

Another good place to find people to dive with is your local dive clubs. Check to see when and where they meet and go make some friends.

    Where do Norcal divers go...

A better question would be where do Aussies go to get away. Any one who dives dreams of going to Australia to dive the GBR so being that you live there and can dive it any time you want where do you like to go to get away?

    Beware buying online

I know the shop you are speaking of and bought my drysuit there a few years ago during their Father's Day June Madness Sale. I was measured for a custom suit by a representative of the suit manufacturer, and when the suit came in one of the sales staff went thru it with me to make sure that it...

    Beware buying online

 If I'm going to wear it I have to try it on first to make sure it fits and feels comfortable. That not only goes for scuba gear but clothing as well. I would not buy a pair of shoes from a catalog assuming that just because they look good in the picture that they'll feel good on my feet...

    Diving and flying?

I've been on several trips where I've flown all night and went diving as soon as I got there. It was never a problem.

    Dive Goes Bad Fast

Sorry but, I do not concider that continuing the dive by any means. I believe the OP intended to abort the dive with his buddy but wanted to use the ascent line for control. It sounded like the ascent line was very near by and could have been used to stop their rapid ascent. However, had the...
