Extremely BAD News: Dutch Springs likely closing permanently ...

Why the need for the name change? Did the old owners keep the rights to the name?

    Diving the U-853

I don’t know when I’m going this year, but always looking for an extra diving pair for the trip. The bigger problem this year is that it normally costs me about $1000 in gas to make this trip from my home port to Montauk to the wreck and back. This year — OUCH!

    Diving the U-853

The wreck is deteriorating but still worth it. Sea Turtle runs a charter and I think Hamptons Dive Center also has trips there. I get there by my own boat from Montauk, it's about a 75 minute trip at speed to get there. We last were there in the fall and it was a great time. Please give...

Got a fill that smells of plastic

At a minimum pull the valve off the tank and check the inside for any residue. If you want to be safe clean the tank.

No more diving on the Thunderbolt by Dive Charters?

My system as an example, we do it all the time on my boat in near-zero viz on deep wrecks. Find the wreck on sonar, get a good bead on it with a few passes. Have a shot line* prepared and when passing over the wreck drop the shot on the wreck. As soon as the shot line hits bottom, one diver...

Extremely BAD News: Dutch Springs likely closing permanently ...

Well I got the boys there twice this past summer before the closure. At least they can tell stories about what used to be.

Trip Report COVID-Delayed God's Pocket Trip Report

Great trip report. I visited there last in the 90's and I have been thinking about going back. Your tale inspires me to make it happen.

    Can underwater ammo explode?

There is at least two torpedoes left in the U853 and I have no reason to believe they are not live. But much more dangerous around that wreck are unexploded hedgehogs, which were used to sink the sub. They are smaller and harder to see than the big 500 pound ash cans. There are also hedgehogs...

Diver pulls hook from fin of 5m tiger shark

Video at the link. This diver has either balls of steel or no common sense or maybe both. https://nypost.com/video/diver-removes-fishing-hook-from-tiger-sharks-fin/

    F×<[$%> weather

Had a long-planned dive to the U-853 for tomorrow (Sunday) now scrubbed on account of 4-5 foot waves anticipated. It was to be my boys first visit to the wreck, they are disappointed.

How to make a fullface snorkelmask safe by Achim Schlöffel

Achim was hilarious in that video. I do like his ISE vids, even if I don't always agree with him.

Shot through the heart (somewhat graphic warning)

I read the "offending" post before it was deleted, and there was nothing offensive about it. I too don't want to be buddied with a spear fisher, that's not why I dive on a charter.
