    Laminate Drysuit questions

@rick00001967-nothing wrong with an early start mate! Thanks for the input. Brand new suit, silicon seals. I hired the tank, but yes, HP steel Fabre (I own same, but purchased them in Australia so no TC/DOT stamp). Burped when donning. Going to try a thinner undergarment (now 450g) next week. If...

@boat sju-thanks for joining in. As I said earlier, I am planning to do a proper course, just doing a bit of trial and error.

    Laminate Drysuit questions

Thanks all for the input. As I’m using all the lead I have right now, maybe I’ll try a thinner merino layer before buying more weight. If steady at 8-10 feet, there is a thermocline at about 20 feet, so I’ll see how warm the merino keeps me. If cold, get more lead. Taking small steps.

    Laminate Drysuit questions

@Brett Hatch-Thanks for that. Funny you mentioned the little hairs on your neck, I just cut my hair and my wife shaves the back of my neck, so we can rule that out. Silicon seals. Not only burp the suit, but when entering the water via stairs with an open shoulder valve I can feel the squeeze...

    Laminate Drysuit questions

Thanks for that. Yes, I've looked at my shoulder valve for the telltale bubbles. I'm thinking the same as your "much loft, more lead" theory. The undergarment is overkill here in Austin, but I'll be doing most of my diving in the Great Lakes so will need the warmth.

    Laminate Drysuit questions

Thanks all. A bit more info. Brand new suit. Yes, Burped the suit when donning. Can not add ANY air for squeeze or I will float. Trying to get down to 8-10ft with full squeeze. BCD will be used for buoyancy, not suit (but right now can not add air to either) Undergarment is an Avatar, poly...

    Laminate Drysuit questions

Hi all-Just got my laminate suit. I've done some neoprene dry dives, but laminate is new to me. I intend to take a proper class to prevent reinventing the wheel, but in the mean time I thought I'd have a go at my local lake. A few questions, but first, my kit because I know the variables will...

    Diving watches

I have a fair few watches, mostly not expensive. Several are dive watches (Seiko, Sekuro, Citizen, Casio). They are amongst my everyday wear so I guess I do dive with them, but they are usually under the sleeve of my wet/dry suit. Sometimes I'll time a safety stop with one just for fun. Oddly, I...

    Great lakes divers

Thanks ScubaBunga! I'll reach out to the Preservation Society and as things tend to go quiet for the season, I'll have time to look into the Ghost Ships-but I think you are correct, I think that they've stopped the festival.

    Great lakes divers

Excellent! thank you Jim. I just ordered a new drysuit from DRI, and will pop in there for measurements in about a week. I'll have a chat. I did meet a Dean on a dive, maybe the same guy? I'll find out. Again, thanks heaps!

    Great lakes divers

Thanks, lowwall. Good to know UASC are just on hold. I sent an email to them a few weeks ago but got no reply. I was worried that they were no longer an ongoing org. I'll try to contact them again via different channels, maybe better in the new year when things hopefully improve. Thanks again...

Do you know of any clubs/groups/organisations (IL, WI, MI) that I could get in touch with? History, archeology, construction (former furniture maker) are all interests. Quick and brief about me for context-Chicago native but longtime (dual citizen) in Australia. Currently living in Austin, TX...
