Has anyone had a “free flowing” nose on a rebreather?

I get it as well. I'm on a Fathom. It's just the fatigue of the muscles involved with closing off the nasal passage. When I'm diving regularly it doesn't happen as much or at all. I recently took some time off, and it started again.

Weight of rebreathers -- Ready to dive?

Yep, that weight is ready to dive. Like jumping into the water ready, so it includes a canister light. I believe it is still a couple pounds lighter than my PST 130s, but yes, it is a beast. I have just got my rig setup to operate in a DIR "lite" mode with 2x AL30s using air or 32% dil for...

Are corded lights a thing of the past?

Were you taught the saying "the S-Drill is underway. Then the drill is over" as a way to remember what way to move the canister light to get it clear of the long hose? I always say that in my head no matter how many times I've done the drill to remember to put lighthead under the long hose...

Weight of rebreathers -- Ready to dive?

My Steel D12s with a SS backplate is 124lb ready to dive (includes 10lb of lead to sink my Coldwater undergarments and also my canister light attached). So my Fathom with on-board LP50s is around 15lb heavier.

    Technical Training Report/Review (AN/DP)

I really appreciated your write-up. Certainly anyone interested in taking training from this instructor will get a good idea of they operate from this post. The difference in your trim and positioning from the start and end of the course was huge! I'm kind of perplexed about some things that...

Weight of rebreathers -- Ready to dive?

Not trained on GUE JJ, but I dive with a lot of them. IIRC, the LP50s are just about minimum gas, so if 50-60 bar leaves you enough dil for the dive plus enough BO to get home, that's cool. Although my buddy was telling me for O2 they have a minimum 100bar to get in the water...

Weight of rebreathers -- Ready to dive?

Fathom rigged "DIR" style: 144lb/65kg. That includes: -2xLP50s for DIL/ Deep BO -1x3L Steel for O2 -1x3L AL for suit inflation (I could reduce the weight to 140lb by switching to an AL6, which I use as well). -12lbs of lead to sink (Im diving in cold water with thick undergarments, plus I'm...

    KISS Sidewinder Training

How are you supposed to safely operate a CCR in SCR mode with no means of PO2 monitoring? Genuinely curious. You would have no way of knowing how dilute your dil was getting, and you'd need to be inject fresh dil so often as a safety margin that you may as well bail to OC. Not to mention if you...

Question CCR Suggestion for Remote Boating Trips - Sanity Check

I'm living in British Columbia and I dive a Fathom as well as one of my buddies. Honestly, any modern CCR on the market right now is gonna do what you need for the dives you're looking at. As another commenter mentioned, the fact that you want to do CCR cave should be more of a deciding factor...

    Lung goo on inhale side?

Ok, thanks. I figured it was not a big deal. My flow test on the BOV was fine and I already pulled the o-rings and checked everything. I even took the BOV, put water inside through the mouthpiece and then laid it down on a desk with the inhale side down. I had a piece of paper towel underneath...

    Lung goo on inhale side?

Its definitely saliva. Its too thick to be condensation.

    Lung goo on inhale side?

I'm getting a decent amount of lung goo/ juice/ saliva building up on the inhale side after a dive. It is not in the lung, just sitting in the bottom of the inhale breathing hose where it connects to the BOV. I've heard varying answers on whether or not this is normal. Some people have said that...

    02 cleaning cylinders question

Depends on what the shop wants to do pretty much. Most shops around me will clean a cylinder every year, even brand new cylinders get cleaned despite the fact they are coming clean from the factory. I can see cleaning a set of doubles every year that is getting dove and filled 1-2x per week, but...

Review Course Report: Fathom Mod 1

A few (many) months ago I started the thread "Fathom vs KISS Classic", which ultimately ended in one or two users asking for an update on what I ended up doing and how it went. Well here it is. Background: I was an OC hypoxic trimix diver (mostly GUE trained) looking for a CCR option that had...

At what age did you switch to the rebreather? (From OC)

I'm taking Mod1 in 4 weeks at 28 years old. I started diving actively in 2014, just doing standard OW single tank dives. I switched to doubles and took AN/DP maybe 2 years later, then GUE T1 2 years after that, and T2 a year ago. I live in the region that you would call the hub for diving in...

    CE Requirement in Europe

I am aware that only CE rebreathers can be bought and sold in Europe. My question is: in what European countries is it a non-issue to show up as a tourist to a dive boat or other dive outfit with a non CE unit, and in what countries are you going to be booted off the boat. I'm looking to hear...

    Fathom vs. KISS Classic?

rjack321: I have purchased a Fathom and have training scheduled for November this year with Kelvin Davidson of 3rd Dimension Diving. I'm very lucky that Kelvin happened to be travelling to Vancouver Island in that time frame, so I will be able to do all my training locally and with cold water...
