Blue Angel Dive shop. Either one of the two Matts will do you well for an instructor. We used Servando a number of years back, and he was good too. They have a nice shore dive entry at their shop as well as boat dive pickup and gear storage. All around nice people.

I've researched it. I can do two trips to Indonesia for what one trip to the Maldives would cost me. No brainer.

If you are going to buy a mask with script lenses, make sure you dive that same model before you spend the money to put the script lenes in. Sucks to have mask you spent a lot of money on and find it leaks or doesn't fit right. In addition, you might consider buying a second non-script mask...

If you can't find anything using Costa Maya, try searching Mahahual and Xcalak. Mahahual is where your ship will stop. Xcalak is 20 miles down the coast. Both share the same reef. The reef is the same as Ambergris Caye, Belize.
