Are there typical parts for a regulator rebuild? Dive Rite RG2010 second stage

Well, never mind. Turns out that Dive Rite no longer makes fully compatible kits, and some of my hoses were questionable. I just went for a new set of everything.

Are there typical parts for a regulator rebuild? Dive Rite RG2010 second stage

Hello all. Time to break out the diving kit, get it serviced, and start using it in shallow depths. I plan on having my first stage professionally rebuilt, but the second stages - I've been told that I should be able to handle them myself. I downloaded the user manual / parts diagram, but...

What make of boat were the adrift Tokelau teens in?

Niiiiice ... thanks Dwayne. I knew I was looking at something good, and something better than most of us think about when we think of an aluminum 12' boat. Thanks for the links, and the pic of yours.

What make of boat were the adrift Tokelau teens in?

I was looking at a photo of the three teens who were recently found at sea, 800-some miles from home, and I could make out "Te Matale(?)" on the bow of the 12 foot aluminum boat. (if you view the video you'll see it behind them on the deck of the ship that saved them) It's overall design...

    Things you've found under water

I saved a 3-foot (and old looking for that size) barracuda that was in a similar situation under a bridge, against and wrapped up to the piling, last year. Hairy situation with all those teeth and double-treble hooks... would have been great if someone videoed it, or even saw me working on it...

What did you buy that you regret?

I have two LP 125's that I love, but there are few divers I'd recommend them, or even the HP 120's, to. There are a lot of divers who don't usually do a lot of time down deep, and probably even more divers who don't have the strength or height to use them well. I like having choices, so I also...

How much air in your BC?

I want to be negative (slightly) even at 2 feet depth. I do not ever want to rise from my safety stop to the surface at any rate faster than ultra-slow. I'm also a fan of getting to 100 feet as fast as possible, so while I don't grossly overweight myself anymore, I do have more weight on me...

    Some questions on SMB usage

Oh, I know MY sausage, buddy ... I know my sausage. ... Some other divers may also know it... :cool2:

    Some questions on SMB usage

+1 for the big, or long, SMB's. I've been both on the "come get me" end, as well as the "****, where in the hell is he/she?" end (i.e. in the water as a diver hoping to be seen by my boat, and navigating the boat waiting for divers to surface - and wondering just where that may be once the...

    Some questions on SMB usage

I use my main reel, and will deploy the SMB at about 55 feet so the people in the boat have some time to find me. Meanwhile, I'm coming up slowly to decompress and do my safety stop. With either a spool or a reel it really isn't too difficult to get the hang of reeling or spooling the line...

What did you buy that you absolutely loved?

In general, my BP/W (but not my specific wing design). For specific brand names, first would come my Atomic Biofins (but still have two other sets of fins for frog kicking or for free-diving - no one set does it all), second would be my Riffe speargun. Edited to add: Just cause everyone else...

    Things you've found under water

Apparently my mother did this to my dad when they were out on one of their first boats... inexperienced boaters probably throw a lot of untied anchors & ropes overboard in their zeal to help.

What did you buy that you regret?

Going along with the simplifying to just webbing, I went from the Dive Rite weight pockets back to a weight belt (under the BP/W webbing) and am actually happier with it ('cause if I have to take my rig off to turn around and get unstuck from something, some weight is still on me and my neoprene...

Things you wish your dive instructor would have told you about...

I wish I would have been told about the automatic reflex (or feeling of it) of spitting out the regulator when the facial-area is submerged in very cold water. I learned quite a few things my original instructor (who was, actually, a really great instructor) didn't mention on that last...

    Solo diving

Cool. I forgot about this thread. Sandspur Island Florida Sanspur island gets absolutely loaded with boats beached up on the sand on weekends. It's a drinking and cook-out spot. Due to the numbers of boats in that area on the weekend I, personally, probably would not be comfortable diving...

    SMB on a Hog rig

TNdiver has a point there. While I imagine bolt snaps could seize via corrosion or getting plugged up, perhaps a double-sided bolt snap in the same location would give a margin of safety in that both sides getting fouled, or seizing, on a properly inspected and working bolt snap has to be rare...

Split fins or no?!? I can't decide! Help!

They are relatively easier to kick than regular fins, they create a faster speed than regular-sized fins, and IMHO are very much more efficient than regular fins. I own Atomic BioFins (the regulars with spring straps) for 95% of my scuba diving as of late, 'regular' Rocket II's for frog-kicking...

What did you buy that you regret?

I regret originally buying AL80's, even at used prices. At least I didn't totally screw up and buy a yoke first stage... In retrospect, I have yet to be able to afford to fully get into decompression diving where I might use the AL80's, so I could have saved that money for other gear. AL80's...
