I am 6', 225, and wearing a full 3mm wetsuit, dive a back plate/wing, and use about 8 lbs when diving in Mexico. I've also worked hard to shrink that number down as many of my first dives there were done in the 14-16 lbs range. Honestly, the best suggestion I have would be to talk to the DM...

The quarries open up here in about a month, but water temperatures will still be colder than I prefer. Don't yet own a drysuit... so diving when the water is in the 40's/50's isn't a lot of fun.

Just signed up to start my DM, am excited but needing to get in the pool and do some swimming for the stamina portions.

You can't really pick up a taxi at the airport. The easiest way from the airport to the hotels is via the vans that are operated. Once you clear customs, you can go down all the way to the right (I believe) to the desk for the vans. I forget the cost.

Christi, Can you fly from Cancun to Roatan? It seems that TACA direct flights from there. While not as convenient as you would have to get the ferry and what not to Cancun, the airfare is about $463 right now.

We have heard many good reviews of Coco View... so much that we are making our first trip at the end of March.

We have dove the Turks and Caicos, and have to say that the walls there are pretty incredible. Not quite as cheap as Cozumel, and not quite the character but the diving is great.

We would give another positive recommendation for Vista del Mar. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have a great location. The boats can pick you up about a block from the hotel.

Two weeks ago (1/5) we books tickets from ORD>IAH>RTB on Continental for $630. By 1/11 the same flights had gone up to over $900. Glad I decided not to wait.
