Very sorry to learn of this. Here's what the Miami Herald had to say: http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/12/19/2553098/seven-saved-one-dead-from-sinking.html

    KeyLargoBrent & BlueWater Divers

For those of you who haven't already heard, Glenn & I sold BlueWater Divers recently. I'm now working for FDEP during the week, and diving most weekends (Fri/Sat/Sun), while Glenn is enjoying some well deserved time off! Eric & Christi are now operating BlueWater Diver. He's a boat captain...

    Key Largo-Rainbow Reef?

Sorry Debbie... I didn't get the message, and just came across this thread today. Rainbow Reef is a fine dive operator, but if you're looking for personalized attention, you'll have to hire an instructor/guide, or dive with a smaller outfit. Feel free to PM or email me for specifics.

Dive the Eagle on Friday afternoon 11/28

Sorry boys and girls, but BlueWater had to pull the plug on their trips for next weekend. :depressed: I, however, still plan to dive the Eagle w/Conch next Friday afternoon! :D Hope to sea ya there!

    3 Days in Key Largo

Matt's right. The forecast calls for sloppy conditions... 3-5' seas at the reef... probably another foot or so at the wrecks. That being said, some divers deal with slop more effectively than others. The big boats (and a few of the smaller ones) will run if the current forecast is accurate...

Dive the Eagle on Friday afternoon 11/28

CaptGary, Walter, Buoyant1 (Ben), & I are planning what is likely to be a memorable afternoon of diving on the wreck of The Eagle on Friday afternoon 11/28 (the day after Thanksgiving). The Eagle is one of our favorite dives, and one of the best artificial reefs around. Join us if you can!

Current water temps in Key Largo?

Our buoys report/record surface temperatures, which are usually a couple of degrees warmer than those at depth. I'd plan for water temps in the upper seventies, and pack/dress accordingly. Enjoy!

How deep is REALLY the Spiegel Grove?

I've clocked over 145' at the screws, beneath the tailgate, where the sand has been "dished-out" by the current. The prevailing depth to the sand around the wreck is nearer to 130', but all things are subject to change!

    Spiegel Grove dive planning

100' is a good "plan depth" on the Grove... maybe with a 110' "contingency". The foredeck sits at about 95', while the stern gunnels are around 105'... no reason to go deeper than that, unless you drop something! The superstructure rises to within 65' of the surface, allowing for a very nice...

Going to the Keys next week - advice?

The deep wrecks (Spiegel/Bibb/Duane/Eagle) are not really appropriate for brand new divers. If you want to introduce your girlfriend to (low stress) wreck diving, take her to the Benwood instead. Enjoy!

    Key Largo

My favorite deep sites are The Duane and The Spiegel Grove (both artificial reefs). Favorite shallow sites include The Benwood Wreck, Molasses Reef, and Snapper Ledge, to name a few. Enjoy!

I fly in to Florida on 10/23, I fly out on 10/29, and would love to dive and fish

Get yourself a copy of Ned Deloach's "Guide To Underwater Florida" and bone up before you head down. The list of "must see" Florida dive sites is way too long (not to mention subjective) to get into here! Let me know if you make it to the Keys.
