    Tipping question

Oh come on. What you can't see won't hurt you, right? Less viz is less worry :-)

    Tipping question

The conversation here shows why tipping is unpopular in many places: it places an unsolvable dilemma upon the shoulders of the customer. I like rewarding people for good effort, but I don't like being placed in a situation where I have to make the right decision but have insufficient...

    Tipping question

I know that tipping is a subject that has been discussed to death, but I was unable to find the answer to my situation. I don't want to be an ingrate but I don't want to pay more than necessary. I don't like to dive solo and was without a buddy, so I hired a dive guide just for myself. I...

    Intova edge and lens filters

I am wondering the same thing: can we use the HD edge this way, flexibly on the same div,e as a macro or normal-lens camera?

    Scubapro Nova LED light

I thought I'd post a follow-up. My LDS was not able to help me, so I emailed scubapro directly using the contact info on their web page. Their tech rep Eric sent me a new battery holder gratis, and it solved the problem! I'm grateful to Scubapro and pleasantly surprised, as everyone I...

    Scubapro Nova LED light

Hi everyone. A couple of years ago I bought a small, silver-colored Nova model LED light as my backup or non-critical daytime inspection flashlight. I loved it - for just a few dives. Then, it became unreliable, flickering, emitting a dim light, or simply refusing to turn on. I took it apart...

Wes Skiles Noted photographer's death will remain a mystery, medical examiner says

I often wonder if diving with a full face mask would mitigate these kinds of accidents. Even if the gas mixture were wrong and he became unconscious, he would be breathing something besides water, and that might buy a little more time... but I say this with very little knowledge, as a...

    Dive rite issues recall

Gotta love Dive-Rite. Any device can have problems; what matters is how the manufacturer responds to them. They sent me new springs at no cost, immediately, with no questions asked - very nice.

    Ever "lost" your mask?

My mask was kicked off of my face during a night dive by a panicking diver. I've also had it dislodged by strong currents. If I were a deco diver, I'd probably carry a spare, but it doesn't seem like a big problem for recreational diving. It has made me a little more cautious though!

Horror stories of exiting a dive on rocks in big surf

On Vancouver Island, BC we entered the water while it was more or less calm. We exited to a howling gale with driven snow and crashing surf. A submerged tide ripped us out as the waves tried to drive us ashore; I couldn't stand up even in 3 feet of water. As a new dry suit diver with tons of...

Buying Equipment for Travel - Help!

Sinclairworld, This is the same thing I was thinking about when I started diving. My mask was the first thing I bought, since it is a prescription mask. But otherwise, if you must own only two things, let them be a regulator and a computer. Your regulator is life support equipment. Do you...

    BC handling

I had the opportunity to clean my BC this evening, and thought of this post. I'm using a BC conditioner (made by McNett, although there's many brands) that is a mixture of soap, germicide and silicone oil. You pour a couple of cap-fulls into the inflator hose mouthpiece, fill the bladder with...

What made you change to BP/W?

I think it's been said, but I'll add my voice - I have a transpac and love it. My trim is better because of the way I can fix the thing to my body using the crotch strap; I can spin 360 vertically without it shifting on my torso. The complete modularity and configurability of the thing makes...

Lost sight of buddies - tank came loose

Usually I insist on checking all of my own gear. I don't like it when dive boat personnel "help" me by changing tanks, etc. One time in Cozumel I succumbed to pressure to "chill out" and let someone else set up my kit. I subsequently suffered an unpleasant sequence of equipment failures...
