What's the diving like around Boston?

Nice Matt, that video was great in illustrating the terrain which exists out there. Looks like fun and the vis seems pretty good, although from what I have been hearing the visibility is typically less. Thanks for the replies everyone! Paul

What's the diving like around Boston?

I'm a San Diego Diver and I wanted to know what the diving is like around Boston. Are there many shore dive spots? What kind of underwater terrain can I expect? Visibility? Temp? Depths? Wrecks? If anyone has dive reports with underwater pictures of some dives they've done in the Boston...

San Diego diving 5/27 or 5/28?

Hey Jim!!! I'd love to get a dive in with a fellow PHD Diver :D. I've got you on video so I know you're a PHD. I'll try to free up that Saturday to get a dive in, LJ Canyon has a lot to offer and I hope you will be able to dive it .... conditions permitting :D Paul

    May 05 Dive Reports

La Jolla Canyon Sean, Terry, Simon, Tyler and I met at Vallecitos at 6 PM for a dusk dive into the canyon. Reports of high surf were unfounded as the surf was mellow with occasional 3 footers which came in wave after wave. However, our experienced bunch of divers pushed through the surf, past...

    April '05 Dive Reports

Thanks Scott :) It was nice to get video of a nudibranch that was actually moving around so much .... I've gotten video of Spanish Shawls but they weren't doing much other than swaying in the surge ... pretty boring for a vid ;). And I've only seen pictures of that Panamic Arrow Crab from...

    April '05 Dive Reports

Tyler and I met up at Vallecitos at 1 PM today and headed out into the 1-2 foot surf and swam through the mild surface chop to our drop point. We descended into the shallows and found ourselves in green water with limited visibility. The run-off from the previous rains probably spurred the...

looking for san diego hotel & dive shop advice

There's plenty of great shore diving out here but be sure to go with someone who knows the area. You could post on San Diego Divebums to find some buddies who are willing to take you out. There are plenty of stores in San Diego from which to rent your gear in addition to the ones already...

    April '05 Dive Reports

Agree it was a great dive and it was a privelage to see that GSB swimming right up underneath us and slowly away. Visibility was very good in the canyon and we weren't even that deep :). The nice dive was tainted by reports of that GSB being speared/killed in the preserve, could have been the...

Enviromentally sealed reg for SoCal waters?

You dive APEX regulators? You must be a diver :D I've dove Atomics, Scubapro, Oceanic and Dive Rite regs with no problems. Other regulators which seem to be dove often are the ever so popular Apeks, and also Aqualung and Zeagle flatheads. I'm sure there are other brands which people out...

Enviromentally sealed reg for SoCal waters?

IMO you don't need an environmentally sealed regulator unless you are diving in contaminated waters and/or plan on doing a lot of ice diving (especially freshwater). I don't know of anyone who has had a problem with their regs in San Diego and the temps can get down in the high 40's depending...

Dive Buddy for Sunday 4/10- La Jolla

Shaka ... man, you're getting ugly! :D We can meet early afternoon for the first dive, hang out and then do another dive late afternoon. Unless you guys wanna do a night dive? I'd prefer to get home at a reasonably hour, it seems everytime I do a night dive I get home around 11 pm from...

    San Diego 4/22

Diving Catalina from San Diego requires a lot of time since you have to either spend the night up in San Pedro/Long Beach area before the boat leaves on a Sat/Sun morning, or just drive up very early in the morning. Plus these charters are all day. Don't get me wrong, Catalina is awesome and I...

    Images from La Bufadora

LOL ..... This is a great thread to read. That wall at "White Rock" was truly spectacular and I've never seen anything like that before (although I admit to not diving elsewhere except Southern California and Los Coronados Islands ;)). The top 30 feet or so was murky and the surge ...

    San Diego 4/22

La Jolla Canyon can be a pretty cool dive during the day and is almost always a good dive at night. Its much deeper than the Cove, of course.

Trip to SanDiego coming up 2/27

I agree Los Coronado's is a great place to dive as well. Visibility is usually very good and if you like Sea Lions the dive spot Lobster Shacks is a good one!

Trip to SanDiego coming up 2/27

Jerry - check out Dive Connections, Inc. They have boats going out all the time and rent most of the gear you need. Temps are in the low to high 50's right now depending on where you are and how deep. It seems most people get by just fine with a 7 mm (hooded vest would be a plus I hear) but a...

    Salton Sea Diving!

Grey_Wulff - why would you want to dive the Salton Sea? Its full of fertilizer run-off and other stuff which is now highly concentrated. Sounds nasty to me! But I have dove Lake Perris a few times and it sounds like Lake Perris is a paradise compared to the Salton Sea. [disclaimer - I have...

anyone wanna dive la jolla tommorow?

Tropical fish? Are you talking about Blacksmiths? They often congregate around rocky structures. It would be cool to see the pinnacle you're talking about on the way up although our first stop is at 50 fsw. See you Sunday AM!

VIDEO from 1/30/05 Los Coronado's Lobster Shack

Mike - I'm using a Sony PC120 in an Ocean Images Housing and use Premiere Pro 1.5 for my NLE software. If I had to do it again I would buy a housing which can accept different lenses (wetmount or otherwise). The Ocean Images housing comes with either a normal port or with a WAL. The WAL is...

VIDEO from 1/30/05 Los Coronado's Lobster Shack

Sunday was the very first time I went there (actually my first boat trip outside of San Diego since moving down here) and we went with DCI (Dive Connections, Inc). We had a great time, the captain and DM were both great, they provided drinks, sandwiches, soup, chips, and snacks between the two...
